Published: March 2021

Deployable geometries are finite auxetic structures that preserve their overall shapes during expansion and contraction. The topological behaviors emerge from intricately arranged elements and their connections. Despite the considerable utility of such configurations in nature and in engineering, deployable nanostructures have never been demonstrated. Here a deployable flight ring, a simplified planar structure of Hoberman sphere is shown, using DNA origami. The DNA flight ring consists of topologically assembled six triangles in two layers that can slide against each other, thereby switching between two distinct (open and closed) states. The origami topology is a trefoil knot, and its auxetic reconfiguration results in negative Poisson's ratios. This work shows the feasibility of deployable nanostructures, providing a versatile platform for topological studies and opening new opportunities for bioengineering.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(ethylene furanoate)/Poly(ε-caprolactone) Block Copolymers.

J Am Soc Mass Spectrom

Laboratory of Chemistry and Technology of Polymers and Colors, Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GR-54124 Thessaloniki, Greece.

Biobased poly(ethylene furanoate) (PEF)/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) block copolymers have been synthesized using ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) in the presence of PEF in different mass ratios. An increase in intrinsic viscosity is observed for the block copolymers with higher ε-CL content due to the extension of their macromolecular chain. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MS) was employed to understand the composition and structure of the produced block copolymers.

Linear aliphatic oligoesters derived from ε-caprolactone (CL) were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) using terpene alcohols that have antibacterial activity as initiators (nerol, geraniol, β-citronellol and farnesol). Ammonium decamolybdate (NH)[MoO] was used as a catalyst. From previous oligoesters, monodisperse species of monomers, dimers, and trimers were isolated by flash column chromatography (FCC).

In vitro metabolism of seven arolyl-derived fentanyl-type new psychoactive substances.

Over the past decade, fentanyl-type new psychoactive substances (F-NPS) have emerged as the most representative synthetic opioids in third-generation drugs. These substances are characterized by their "low" fatal dose and parent drug levels in biological matrices, "fast" rates of derivatization and metabolism, and "many" derivatization sites and analogs. The low levels of parent fentanyl NPS in biological matrices complicate their detection, necessitating the use of characteristic metabolites as biomarkers for forensic analysis.

Anilido-oxazoline-ligated iron complexes, including bis(anilido-oxazolinate) iron(II), mononuclear iron(II) alkyl and aryloxide, as well as the dinuclear analogues, were synthesized, and their catalytic performance on ring-opening polymerization (ROP) has been studied. Transmetalation of FeCl(THF) with in situ-generated anilido-oxazolinate lithium afforded the bis(anilido-oxazolinate) iron complexes and . Half-sandwich anilido-oxazolinate iron trimethylsilylalkyl complexes and could be synthesized in good yields via taking pyridine as an L-type ligand.

Twisted Dipole Ion Guide (TDIG) for Flexible Ion Transfer in Atmospheric Pressure Ionization Mass Spectrometry.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Research Center of Analytical Instrumentation, School of Mechanical Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610065, People's Republic of China.

In ambient mass spectrometry, the performance in direct in situ analysis applications has been hindered by the lack of efficient ion-transferring technique between the atmosphere pressure ionization source and the mass analyzer. Building upon the hybrid concept of a stack ring ion guide and multipole ion guide, this study proposes the concept of a reconfigurable twisted dipole ion guide (TDIG) that enables flexible ion transfer between atmosphere and vacuum. Initially, theoretical and numerical studies were conducted to understand the basic ion confining principle of the twisted dipole ion guide, revealing its unique merits in long-distance flexible ion transmission.
