The electronic and optical properties of vertical heterostructures (HTSs) and lateral heterojunctions (HTJs) between (B,N)-codoped graphene (dop@Gr) and graphene (Gr), CN, BC and h-BN monolayers are investigated using van der Waals density functional theory calculations. We have found that all the considered HTSs are energetically and thermally feasible at room temperature, and therefore they can be synthesized experimentally. The dop@Gr/Gr, BC/dop@Gr and BN/dop@Gr HTSs are semiconductors with direct bandgaps of 0.1 eV, 80 meV and 1.23 eV, respectively, while the CN/dop@Gr is a metal because of the strong interaction between dop@Gr and CN layers. On the other hand, the dop@Gr-Gr and BN-dop@Gr HTJs are semiconductors, whereas the CN-dop@Gr and BC-dop@Gr HTJs are metals. The proposed HTSs can enhance the absorption of light in the whole wavelength range as compared to Gr and BN monolayers. The applied electric field or pressure strain changes the bandgaps of the HTSs and HTJs, indicating that these HTSs are highly promising for application in nanoscale multifunctional devices.

Shear mode ultrasonic waves are in high demand for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications owing to their nondispersive characteristics, singular mode, and minimal energy loss, especially in harsh environments. However, the generation and detection of a pure shear wave using conventional piezoelectric materials present substantial challenges because of their complex piezoelectric response, involving multiple modes. Herein, we introduce a high-quality piezoelectric crystal BiSiO (BSO), exhibiting a robust piezoelectric response ( = 45.

Humidity sensors have been widely used to monitor humidity in daily life, agriculture fields, and so on. However, conventional sensors are not suitable for wearable devices because of their large dimensions and rigid substrates. Hence, we report a fast response, highly sensitive, and fully flexible humidity sensor on a PI substrate based on the composite material of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/MoS, with a response time of 0.

This study offers a comprehensive analysis of the Perturbed Schrödinger -Hirota Equation (PSHE), crucial for understanding soliton dynamics in modern optical communication systems. We extended the traditional Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (NLSE) to include higher-order nonlinearities and spatiotemporal dispersion, capturing the complexities of light pulse propagation. Employing the modified auxiliary equation method and Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM), we derived a spectrum of exact traveling wave solutions, encompassing exponential, rational, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions.

The outstanding performance of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) has expanded their application areas from quantum technologies to astronomy, space communication, imaging, and LiDAR. As a result, there has been a surge in demand for these devices, that commercial products cannot readily meet. Consequently, more research and development efforts are being directed towards establishing in-house SNSPD manufacturing, leveraging existing nano-fabrication capabilities that can be customized and fine-tuned for specific needs.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging is a viable approach to promote corneal epithelium wound healing. This study created a single-component hydrogel (HA Gel) with a novel dual-functionalized hyaluronic acid derivative (HA-GA-PBA) containing gallol and phenylboronic acid (PBA) moieties. Both of these moieties were dual-functional.
