Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the energy response of a radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter (RGD) for diagnostic kilovoltage x-ray beams by Monte Carlo (MC) calculations and measurements.

Methods: The uniformity and reproducibility of GD-352M (with Sn filter) and GD-302M (no filter) were tested with 45 RGDs in free air. Subsequently, the RGD response was obtained as a function of an Al-HVL using the parameter, quality index (QI), which is defined as the ratio of the effective energy (keV) to the maximum energy (keV) of the photons. The x-ray fluence spectra with QI of 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6 were set for tube voltages of 50 ~ 137.6 kVp. The RGD response was calculated in free air using the MC method and verified by the air kerma, K, measured using an ionization chamber.

Results: The uniformity and reproducibility of the 45 RGDs were ± 2.3% and ± 2.7% for GD-352M and ± 0.7% and ± 1.6% for GD-302M at the one standard deviation level, respectively. The calculated RGD response was 0.965 to 1.062 at Al-HVL 2.73 mm or more for GD-352M and varied from 3.9 to 2.8 for GD-302M. Both RGD responses exhibited a good correlation with the Al-HVL for the given QI. K measured by RGDs for each beam quality with a QI of 0.5 was in the range of -5%~0.8% for GD-352M and -1.8%~3% for GD-302M, relative to the chamber measurements.

Conclusions: The RGD response was indicated as a function of the Al-HVL for the given QI, and it presented a good correlation with the Al-HVL.

Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is an efficient treatment with unlimited potential for liver cancer that can effectively reduce patient mortality. Understanding the biological process related with RFA treatment is important for improving treatment strategy. This study aimed to identify the critical targets for regulating the efficacy of RFA.

Under benign conditions, bone tissue can regenerate itself without external intervention. However, this regenerative capacity can be compromised by various factors, most importantly related with the extent of the injury. Critical-sized defects, exceeding the body's natural healing ability, demand the use of temporary or permanent devices like artificial joints or bone substitutes.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are promising therapeutic carriers for their ideal nano-size and intrinsic biocompatibility, while rapid clearance and limited targeting ability are the major setbacks of EVs. With minimal absorption into the systemic circulation, inhalation for pulmonary disease therapy minimizes off-target toxicity to other organs and offers a safe and effective treatment for respiratory disorders. Herein, a nano-grid carrier made of boronated cyclodextrin framework (BCF) was prepared for pH/HO responsive release of EVs.

Article Synopsis
  • In situ vaccines (ISV) can boost anti-tumor immunity by causing immunogenic cell death, but face hurdles like low tumor antigen release and a suppressive tumor environment.
  • Targeting the STING pathway can enhance the effectiveness of these vaccines, and a new ISV called MBMA-RGD was created to simultaneously induce cell death and activate this pathway for prolonged immune response.
  • MBMA-RGD uses a targeted delivery system that releases anti-tumor agents, promoting the generation of tumor antigens and reducing the suppressive effects of the tumor microenvironment, thereby increasing overall effectiveness against tumors.
