Flash Burn of the Eyes Caused by High-Voltage Electrical Spark.

Cureus

Emergency Medicine, Envision Physician Services, Plantation, USA.

Published: January 2021

We present a rare case of corneal abrasion with mild eyelid epitheliopathy caused by a high-voltage electrical spark. The case includes emergency department evaluation and subsequent management at the burn center with ophthalmology. The prognosis, in this case, is good, however, the potential severity of high-voltage electrical injuries can be much worse. Prevention strategies for occupational electrical injuries are discussed with an emphasis on proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

Background: Ambient ionization mass spectrometry (MS) has attracted significant attention due to its simplicity and ease of operation. Contactless, or field-induced, ionization is one of the ambient ionization techniques. In this approach, no direct electrical contact or additional voltage is required on the ionization-assisted substrate.

Arguably, SiC technology is the most rapidly expanding IC manufacturing technology driven mostly by the aggressive roadmap for battery electric vehicle penetration and also industrial high-voltage/high-power applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art of SiC technology focusing on the challenges starting from the difficult and lengthy SiC substrate growth all the way to the complex MOSFET assembly processes. We focus on the differentiation from the established Si manufacturing processes and provide a comprehensive list of references as well as a brief description of our own research into the key manufacturing processes in this technology.

In order to increase the thermal conductivity of neat epoxy resin and broaden its practical application in high-voltage insulation systems, we have constructed four kinds of epoxy resin nanocomposite models (a neat epoxy resin (EP), a graphene-doped epoxy resin nanocomposite (EP/GR) and hydroxyl- or carboxyl-functionalized graphene-doped epoxy resin nanocomposites (EP/GR-OH or EP/GR-COOH)) to systematically investigate their thermodynamic and electrical properties using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Compared with the EP model, carboxyl-functionalized graphene particles enhanced the thermal conductivity of the EP/GR-COOH model by 66.5% and increased its by 26.

To investigate the effect of combined action of discharge plasma (DP) and plasma-activated water (PAW) in mutagenesis breeding, this study focuses on Agropyron mongolicum. We utilized high-voltage DC pulsed dielectric barrier discharge for seed treatment, alone and in combination with PAW. The research focused on germination rates, evolution of physicochemical properties of imbibition residual solution, reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to assess DP-induced damage and variability in Agropyron mongolicum.

Dual-Anion-Rich Polymer Electrolytes for High-Voltage Solid-State Lithium Metal Batteries.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Department of Physics, JC STEM Lab of Energy and Materials Physics, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong 999077, P. R. China.

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are promising candidates for lithium metal batteries (LMBs) owing to their safety features and compatibility with lithium metal anodes. However, the inferior ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability of SPEs hinder their application in high-voltage solid-state LMBs (HVSSLMBs). Here, a strategy is proposed to develop a dual-anion-rich solvation structure by implementing ferroelectric barium titanate (BTO) nanoparticles (NPs) and dual lithium salts into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based SPEs for HVSSLMBs.
