Purpose: This review explores the role of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in retinal degenerative and vascular disorders and assesses its potential both as an adjunct to established vascular endothelial growth factor inhibiting treatments for retinal vascular diseases and as a neuroprotective therapeutic agent.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, focusing on the neuroprotective and anti-angiogenic properties of PEDF. The review evaluated its effects on retinal health, its dysregulation in ocular disorders, and its therapeutic application in preclinical models.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a critical angiogenesis biomarker associated with various pathological conditions, including cancer. This study leverages pre-biotinylated FcγRI interactions with IgG1-type monoclonal antibodies to develop a sensitive VEGF detection method. Utilizing surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology, we characterized the binding dynamics of immobilized biotinylated FcγRI to an IgG1-type antibody, Bevacizumab (AVT), through kinetic studies and investigated suitable conditions for sensor surface regeneration.

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, is a fundamental process in both physiological repair mechanisms and pathological conditions, including cancer and chronic inflammation. Hydrogels are commonly used as in vitro models to mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) and support endothelial cell behavior during angiogenesis. Mesenchymal stem cells further augment cell and tissue growth and are therefore widely used in regenerative medicine.

Up to 50% of individuals with uveal melanoma (UM), a frequent cancer of the eye, pass away from metastases. One of the major challenges in treating UM is the role of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), which mediate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumors. RTKs are involved in binding multiple growth factors, leading to angiogenesis and vasculogenic mimicry (VM) phenomena.

Objectives: To investigate the mechanism of PHPS1 for promoting apoptosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells and the role of AMPK in regulating tumor angiogenesis under hypoxic conditions.
Methods: Human oral squamous cell carcinoma Ca9-22 cells cultured in hypoxic conditions (1% O) were inoculated subcutaneously in 16 nude mice, which were divided into control group and PHPS1 group (8) for treatment with 10% DMSO and 10% PHPS1 respectively. Tumor growth in the mice was monitored till 14 days after the treatment, and the xenografts were examined pathologically using HE staining.
