Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer, has a significant mortality rate, largely due to late diagnosis. Recent advances in medical research have demonstrated the potential of biomarkers for early detection. Moreover, the discovery and use of prognostic biomarkers offer a ray of hope in the fight against liver cancer.

We conducted the largest sequencing characterization of potentially disease-causing, protein-altering and splicing mutations in 710 cases and 11,827 controls from genetically predicted African or African admixed ancestries. We explored copy number variants (CNVs) and runs of homozygosity (ROHs) in prioritized early onset and familial cases.

A novel and efficient strategy for the direct synthesis of 3-arylthioquinoline derivatives via radical induced tandem cyclization of propargylamines with diaryl disulfides was developed. This protocol undergoes a cascade sulfuration/ cyclization/ oxidation/ aromatization pathway to afford the desired products in a broad substrate scope using readily available starting materials under mild conditions. Based on this strategy, we further modified 3-arylquinolines to obtain two novel deep blue fluorescent molecules, QLSCz and QLSTCz, with good optical properties through two-step synthesis by oxidation and electron donor modification.

National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Aichi 474-8511, Japan.
Background: Skin tactile perception may indicate frailty in older adults. Although gait performance is crucial for diagnosing frailty, its association with skin tactile perception has not yet been explored.
Objectives: To examine the association between skin tactile perception and changes in step length, cadence, and gait speed in middle-aged and older adults.

Division of Physiotherapy, Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa.
Objectives: To map the scope of available evidence on relationships between multimorbidity patterns and functioning among adults in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and describe methods used.
Design: Scoping review guided by a five-step methodological framework and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews reporting guidelines.
Data Sources: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, EBSCOhost (CINAHL) and Cochrane databases were searched from January 1976 to March 2023, plus reference lists of included studies.
