Prediction of Potential Risk for Ten Azole and Benzimidazole Fungicides with the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Agonistic Activity to Aquatic Ecosystems.

J Agric Food Chem

January 2025

Fujian Engineering Research Center for Green Pest Management/Fujian Key Laboratory for Monitoring and Integrated Management of Crop Pests/East China Branch of the National Center for Agricultural Biosafety Sciences, Institute of Plant Protection, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Fuzhou 350013, China.

Azole and benzimidazole fungicides are widely used agrochemicals to prevent and treat fungal growth and are frequently detected in aquatic environments. Here, we aimed to assess the aquatic ecological risks of ten currently used azole and benzimidazole fungicides, which with the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonistic activity, and their transformation products (TPs). We obtained over 400 types of aerobic TPs for ten fungicides.

Solar Evaporator with Dual Gradient Heating Effect for Sustained and Efficient Desalination.

Small

January 2025

College of Polymer Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610065, China.

Solar desalination shows promise in tackling freshwater shortages, but challenges arise from the trade-off between water transportation and heat supply, affecting evaporators' efficiency and salt resistance. Additionally, intermittent nature of solar radiation significantly diminishes overall evaporative performance. This study presents dual-gradient heating solar evaporator for efficient desalination.

Purpose: Improving drug solubility is crucial in formulating poorly water-soluble drugs, especially for oral administration. The incorporation of drugs into mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to improve physical stability and solubility. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the mechanism of poorly water-soluble drugs within MSN, as well as evaluate the impact on the dissolution and physical stability.

Inhibitory effects of cadmium and hydrophilic cadmium telluride quantum dots on the white rot fungus .

Heliyon

January 2025

Department of Microbiology (Biocenter 1, Viikinkaari 9), Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Helsinki, Finland.

The white rot fungus was investigated for its ability to decolorize the reactive textile dye Reactive Black 5 (RB5) that was co-exposed to CdCl and quantum dots (QDs) consisting of a CdTe core capped with two different hydrophilic organic ligands (NAC and MPA). Without co-exposure, completely decolorizes RB5 within 9 days. The highest inhibitory effect was found for soluble CdCl with an EC of 583 μg l, followed by MPA-QDs (10,628 μg l) and NAC-QDs (17,575 μg l).

Methylene blue and malachite green dyes adsorption onto /bentonite/tripolyphosphate.

Heliyon

January 2025

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Health Science, Mardin Artuklu University, Mardin, Turkey.

In the current research mushroom/bentonite clay (RDBNC) as a low-cost bionanosorbent was investigated for adsorption of methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) dye from contaminated water. The bionanosorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Zeta-potential techniques. Adsorption experiments of RDBNC for MB, MG dyes following Freundlich isotherm and pseudo second order kinetic models.
