Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is considered one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide, which is accompanied by a poor prognosis. Although reports regarding the importance of cancer stem cell (CSC) markers in gastric cancer progression have rapidly developed over the last few decades, their clinicopathological and prognostic values in gastric cancer still remain inconclusive. Therefore, the current meta-analysis aimed to quantitatively re-evaluate the association of CSC markers expression, overall and individually, with GC patients' clinical and survival outcomes.

The entity "pericytoma with t(7;12)" was described as a rare, distinct perivascular myoid neoplasm provisionally classified within the family of myopericytic tumors that demonstrates t(7;12)(p22;q13) translocation with resultant ACTB-GLI1 fusion and biologically was felt to behave in an indolent fashion. However, a recent study showed that tumors with this and similar translocations may have variable morphology and immunohistochemical phenotype with inconsistent myopericytic characteristics and a propensity for metastasis, raising questions regarding the most appropriate classification of these neoplasms. Herein, we report 3 additional patients with tumors harboring t(7;12) and ACTB-GLI1 fusion.

Small-molecule inhibitors of the Hedgehog (HH) pathway receptor Smoothened (SMO) have been effective in treating some patients with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), where the HH pathway is often activated, but many patients respond poorly. In this study, we report the results of investigations on PTCH1 signaling in the HH pathway that suggest why most patients with BCC respond poorly to SMO inhibitors. In immortalized human keratinocytes, PTCH1 silencing led to the generation of a compact, holoclone-like morphology with increased expression of SMO and the downstream HH pathway transcription factor GLI1.

Repair of calvarial bony defects remains challenging for craniofacial surgeons. Injury experiments on animal calvarial bones are widely used to study healing mechanisms and test tissue engineering approaches.
