Epididymitis associated with bacteremic pneumococcal pneumonia.

We describe a case of a 56 year-old male who presented to the hospital with pneumonia and bacteremia secondary to . After admission and initiation of appropriate antibacterial therapy he began to complain of scrotal pain. Ultrasound of the testes confirmed findings of left-sided epididymitis. Urine culture, urine gonorrhea and chlamydia nucleic acid amplification and HIV testing were negative. Clinical picture suggested seeding of the epididymis with and resulting infection.

Despite the extensive application of chondroitin sulfate (CS), a type of biological macromolecule, in various fields, including biomedicine, cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals, research into its potential anti-obesity properties remains limited. In this study, the impacts of CS on obese mice induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) were investigated. The results showed that supplementing CS effectively controlled body weight gain and fat accumulation (perirenal fat and epididymal fat) compared to the control group of obese mice.

The aim of this study was to explore the role of the ZnT9 protein in obesity-induced sperm maturation disorders in men. We generated a mouse model of obesity-induced weak spermatogenesis via a high-fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks. In addition to the HFD, a 5-week intervention of salubrinal (SAL) (an inhibitor of endoplasmic reticulum stress) (1 mg/kg/day), ZnSO (15 mg/kg/day), and their combination was started at week 6, after which sperm viability and epididymal tissue damage were assessed.

Given the extensive use of plastic materials in modern society, there is an escalating concern about the potential risks associated with exposure to plastic products. This study investigated the impact of plastic leachates from boiled-water-treated cups, including polypropylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polystyrene (PS), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), on male reproductive health. Experimental mice were administered daily doses of the plastic leachates for 180 consecutive days.

Medicinal herbs, such as the ant nest plant (), are promising for the management of diabetes mellitus-associated infertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological activity of the ant nest plant and its capacity to mitigate the adverse effects of alloxan-induced diabetes on testicular morphology, epididymal function, and sperm quality in male rats.
