Feral populations, those which successfully persist outside of cultivation or husbandry, provide unique opportunities to study the genomic impacts of domestication and local adaptation. We argue that by leveraging genomic resources designed for domestic counterparts, powerful phylogenetic and population genomic data collection and analyses can be designed to disentangle complex demographic processes.

Hunting feral pigs using dogs is a popular recreational activity in Australia. Dogs are used to flush, chase, bail, and hold feral pigs, and their use for these activities is legal in some states and territories and illegal in others. However, there is little knowledge about the health and welfare of dogs owned specifically for the purpose of pig hunting.

The high sodium-low potassium environment of civilized people, operating on a genetic substrate of susceptibility, is the cardinal factor in the genesis and perpetuation of "essential" hypertension. The noxious effects begin in childhood, when habits of excess salt consumption are acquired at the family table, and are perpetuated by continuing habit and by increasing use of convenience and snack foods with artificially high concentrations of sodium and low levels of potassium. Present methods of food preparation leach out the protective potassium.
