Cu, tetracycline (TC), and corresponding tetracycline resistance genes (TRGs) are common micropollutants in aquaculture wastewater, which have great impact on environment and human health. In this study, we developed a thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) forward osmosis (FO) membrane with an electrospinning thermoplastic polyurethane/polysulfone (PSF/TPU) substrate and a UiO-66-NH particle interlayer modified active layer. The effects of Cu concentration on the synergetic removal of TC and TRGs (e.g., tetA/M/X/O/C, int1, and 16 S rRNA gene) were analyzed to determine the role of Cu in FO process. The rejection mechanism was also analyzed in depth. Results demonstrated that the rejection of TC and Cu was 99.53% and 97.99%. The rejection of TRGs exceeded 90% (specifically, over 99% for tetC) at a Cu concentration of 500 μg/L when 0.5 M (NH)HPO was used as draw solution. Complexation reaction between Cu and TC, electrostatic interaction, and the adsorption of Cu on membrane surface were the main contributing factors for the high rejection efficiencies. Altogether, the as-prepared FO membrane holds great potential for simultaneously removing heavy metals, antibiotics, and resistance genes in real wastewater.

Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), composed of the core subunits EED, SUZ12, and either EZH1 or EZH2, is critical for maintaining cellular identity in multicellular organisms. PRC2 deposits H3K27me3, which is thought to recruit the canonical form of PRC1 (cPRC1) to promote gene repression. Here, we show that EZH1-PRC2 and cPRC1 are the primary Polycomb complexes on target genes in non-dividing, quiescent cells.

Uropathogens, particularly bacteria, can infect any part of the urinary tract and cause bacteriuria. Our study aimed to examine the antibiotic-resistant profile, associated risk factors, and phenotypic and genotypic features of ESBL, carbapenemase, and mcr resistance genes in multidrug-resistant bacteria. Samples were inoculated on culture media, identified using standard biochemical tests, and species confirmation was performed via 16S rRNA gene amplification.

Background: Wild game meat has over the years gained popularity across the globe as it is considered a food source with high protein content, low fat content, and a balanced composition of fatty acids and minerals, which are requirements for a healthy diet. Despite this popularity, there is a concern over its safety as many species of wildlife are reservoirs of zoonotic diseases including those of bacterial origin, more so antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Methods: This study aimed to describe the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in mammalian wild game, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii has evolved as the most troublesome microorganism with multiple virulence factors. Biofilm formation, porins, micronutrient capturing mechanism and quorum sensing, provide protection against desiccation, host-pathogen killing and enhance its persistence. The conservation of these factors between colonizing and pathogenic carbapenem resistant A.

Controlling microbial pollutants is a significant public health concern as they cause several chronic microbial infections and illnesses. In recent years, essential oils (EOs) have become intriguing alternatives for synthetic antimicrobials due to their biodegradability, natural source extraction, and strong antibacterial properties. The bactericidal properties of alginate containing lemon essential oil were examined in this investigation.
