Despite the clinical emphasis on processes happening within individuals, investigations into the psychological, structural connections between mental health symptoms have almost exclusively analyzed differences between people. These investigations have revealed important findings; however, they do not reveal the close connections among symptoms in an individuals' psychology. This study thus examined the psychological connections between symptoms directly, using borderline personality disorder (BPD) symptoms as an example. Participants (252; 74 with BPD) reported their momentary BPD symptoms five times daily, and 165 did so again 18 months later. In support of personalized medicine (Wright & Woods, 2020), individuals' BPD symptom structures differed considerably from each other and from the between-person structure. A novel technique revealed that differences were greater than expected by chance. Within-person structures tended to exhibit more symptom granularity (more factors and lower variance explained) and differing symptom meanings (patterns of loadings). For example, some individuals exhibited close connections between relationship turmoil and identity uncertainty, whereas other individuals exhibited close connections between relationship turmoil and impulsivity. Thus, conceptions of any given person's psychopathological processes using between-person structural findings will most likely be inaccurate. Whereas psychoanalysis has explored in detail the defensive function that sensoriality can have for these patients, the author puts forward the idea that this can be used to further the differentiation and structuration of the body ego. Through some detailed clinical material, drawn from the psychotherapy of a five-year-old girl, the author sets out to illustrate how work on the different sensations can lead to relational openings that are initially specific to each sensory channel and then more general, as well as how the access to otherness emerges from this work on sensations.

Extrusion-based printing of macroscopic architectures layer-by-layer offers new opportunities for constructing customized electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. Prion Protein Endoproteolysis: Cleavage Sites, Mechanisms and Connections to Prion Disease.

Highly abundant in neurons, the cellular prion protein (PrP) is an obligatory precursor to the disease-associated misfolded isoform denoted PrP that accumulates in the rare neurodegenerative disorders referred to either as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) or as prion diseases. The ability of PrP to serve as a substrate for this template-mediated conversion process depends on several criteria but importantly includes the presence or absence of certain endoproteolytic events performed at the cell surface or in acidic endolysosomal compartments. The major endoproteolytic events affecting PrP are referred to as α- and β-cleavages, and in this review we outline the sites within PrP at which the cleavages occur, the mechanisms potentially responsible and their relevance to pathology.

Problem Management Plus, a World Health Organization-endorsed brief psychological intervention for mental health disorders, has been shown to be effective and cost-effective in various countries globally but faces implementation challenges, such as quality control in training, supervision, and delivery. While digital technologies to foster mental health care have the potential to close treatment gaps and address the issues of quality control, their development requires context-specific, interdisciplinary, and participatory approaches to enhance impact and acceptance.
