Background And Objective: The morphology of the human metaphase II (MII) oocyte is an essential indicator of the embryo's potential for developing into a healthy baby in the Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) process. In this case, characteristics such as oocyte and ooplasm area, zona pellucida (ZP) thickness, and perivitelline space (PVS) width are also linked to the embryo's implantation potential. Moreover, oocyte segmentation methods may be of particular interest in those countries' restrictive IVF legislation.
Methods: While the manual examination is impractically time-consuming and subjective, this paper concentrates efforts on designing an automated deep learning framework to take on the challenging task of segmentation in low-resolution microscopic images of MII oocytes. In particular, we have developed a deep learning network based on an improved U-Net model using our presented unique collection of human MII oocyte images (a new challenging dataset contains 1,009 images accompanied by manually labeled pixel-accurate ground truths). High-quality ground truth (GT) preparation is a labor-intensive task. However, we put considerable effort into assessing how different types of GT annotations (binary and multiclass) impact segmentation performance.
Results: Experimental results on 250 MII oocyte test images demonstrate that the proposed multiclass segmentation algorithm is able to segment complex and irregular ooplasm, ZP, and PVS structures more accurately than its two-class version. Furthermore, the proposed architecture outperforms two other state-of-the-art deep learning models, U-Net and ENet, for the MII oocyte segmentation task.
Conclusions: The findings of this study provide a fascinating insight into the automatic and accurate segmentation of human MII oocytes.

Resveratrol can beneficially affect growth and follicle development and lead to improved sperm function parameters in pre-clinical studies, while information from clinical studies is still inconclusive. This study aims to evaluate the biological and clinical impact of a resveratrol-based multivitamin supplement on level II assisted reproduction cycles (IVF and intracytoplasmic sperm injection [ICSI]). A retrospective, case-control study, involving 70 infertile couples undergoing IVF/ICSI cycles, was conducted at the Assisted Reproductive Center, Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit-Villa Sofia-Cervello Hospital in Palermo.

Objective: To compare recombinant FSH (rFSH) with highly purified-human menopausal gonadotrophin (hp-hMG) on ovarian response in women undergoing elective fertility preservation (FP).
Methods: This retrospective study included 456 women who underwent elective FP with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist or progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) protocols between 01/2017-12/2021. Only the first treatment cycle of each woman was included.

Study Question: Is there an association between different mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genotypes and female infertility or ovarian response, and is the appearance of variants in the oocytes favored by medically assisted reproduction (MAR) techniques?
Summary Answer: Ovarian response was negatively associated with global non-synonymous protein-coding homoplasmic variants but positively associated with haplogroup K; the number of oocytes retrieved in a cycle correlates with the number of heteroplasmic variants in the oocytes, principally with variants located in the hypervariable (HV) region and rRNA loci, as well as non-synonymous protein-coding variants.
What Is Known Already: Several genes have been shown to be positively associated with infertility, and there is growing concern that MAR may facilitate the transmission of these harmful variants to offspring, thereby passing on infertility. The potential role of mtDNA variants in these two perspectives remains poorly understood.

Research Question: Does the aggressiveness of Hodgkin lymphoma impact the oocyte cohort after ovarian stimulation for fertility preservation?
Design: A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was undertaken. Seventy-seven chemo-naive women with newly diagnosed Hodgkin lymphoma were enrolled prospectively at the Observatory and Fertility Preservation Centre, Lille University Hospital, France between 2012 and 2021. Seventy-eight ovarian stimulation cycles were performed.

Endometriosis remains a significant challenge for reproductive-aged women and is frequently associated with infertility. Although in vitro fertilization (IVF) is used to address infertility in women with endometriosis, its effectiveness in this context is still debated, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia, where IVF remains a major challenge. The aim of this study was to investigate the success rates of early stages of IVF in women with and without endometriosis.
