The electro-oxidation of tetracycline (TeC) in methanol medium containing chloride or sulfate ions was evaluated using a DSA®-Cl in a flow reactor and compared with BDD. The results show that after 30 min of electrolysis no TeC is detected by liquid chromatography when chloride is used as supporting electrolyte. On the other hand, after 90 min of electrolysis using a BDD anode only 61% of TeC was removed from solutions with chloride, but in the presence of sulfate the removal reaches 94%. This evidences that the oxidizing species generated during electrochemical oxidation control the process and the mechanism of degradation of the TeC. Besides that, it was possible to infer that only a small amount of methanol might convert to formaldehyde or formic acid, although they were not detected according to the nil changes in the FTIR spectra or in the HPLC chromatograms recorded.

Advanced oxidation processes are commonly considered one of the most effective techniques to degrade refractory organic pollutants, but the limitation of a single process usually makes it insufficient to achieve the desired treatment. This work introduces, for the first time, a highly-efficient coupled advanced oxidation process, namely Electro-Oxidation-Persulfate-Electro-Fenton (EO-PS-EF). Leveraging the EO-PS-EF tri-coupling system, diverse contaminants can be highly efficiently removed with the help of reactive hydroxyl and sulfate radicals generated via homogeneous and heterogeneous bi-catalysis, as certified by radical quenching and electron spin resonance.

Recent studies reported a new strategy of electro-oxidation of organic compounds using methanol as solvent. Considering its well-known toxicity, this work sought to evaluate the use of ethanol as an alternative solvent for pollutants degradation. Therefore, thorough analyses were performed in order to evaluate tetracycline (TC) electro-oxidation using DSA-Cl anode in ethanol-HO solutions.

In order to resolve the poor antibiotics rejection and serious fouling of ultrafiltration (UF) membrane during municipal wastewater reclamation, a novel anodic membrane (defective UiO-66 (D-UiO-66)/Graphite/Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)) with high pure water flux (596.1 L•h •m •bar) was fabricated by incorporating defective zirconium based metal-organic framework (D-UiO-66) and conductive graphite particles into PVDF matrix and applied in the coupling of electro-oxidation and membrane filtration process. Compared to the other anodic membranes (i.

Iron-cobalt layered double hydroxides (FeCoLDH) showed superior oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, but the sluggish water adsorption and dissociation dynamics restrict its capacity to degrade organic pollutants by electro-oxidation. Herein, enhanced electro-oxidation performance of FeCoLDH with hydrophilic structure was designed and exhibited efficient removal efficiency of tetracycline. Theoretical calculation and characterization results consistently elucidated that the electronic structure of FeCoLDH is optimized by doping phosphorus and depositing copper nanodots (NDs).
