Background: Malignant solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) account for 15%-20% of all SFTs, and malignant SFTs arising from the greater omentum are extremely rare. Most malignant SFTs of the greater omentum are diagnosed pathological examinations after surgery. In this study, we report a case of malignant omental SFT and review the published literature on this rare malignancy.
Case Summary: A 64-year-old female presented with an abdominal mass, and underwent exploratory surgery, during which a huge tumor originating from the greater omentum and intraperitoneal implants were identified and resected. The results of the pathological examination, immunohistochemistry staining, and gene sequencing led to the diagnosis of malignant SFT of the greater omentum. The patient died one and a half years later due to tumor recurrence and metastasis.
Conclusion: This is the first report of the application of gene sequencing in the diagnosis of malignant SFTs of the greater omentum.

The necessity of prophylactic cytoreductive surgery (PCRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMN) after complete removal is still controversial. This study aims to determine the role of PCRS + HIPEC and identify optimal strategies for managing these patients. One hundred fifty-nine patients who sought medical advice at Aerospace Center Hospital were retrospectively analyzed from January 2011 to December 2021.

Spigelian hernias are rare clinical entities; vague symptomatology and unreliable clinical examination ensure difficult diagnosis. Computed tomography (CT) is critical for accurate diagnosis. Surgical repair is mandated given the high risk of visceral organ incarceration.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a type of bariatric surgery. Gastric stenosis or obstruction is a known complication of LAGB; however, its occurrence after band removal is extremely rare. A 60-year-old female, who had undergone LAGB 6 years earlier and band removal 4 years prior, presented to the hospital with recurrent vomiting.

We report a case in which a giant hepatic cyst located at the hepatic hilum and compressing the inferior vena cava was safely treated laparoscopically with careful attention to hemodynamics in a difficult fenestrated resection in a patient with severe kyphosis. The anatomic location of the cyst was evaluated preoperatively via 3D reconstruction of computed tomography images to identify a site where safe fenestrated resection could be performed. This was challenging because the surgical field was narrow due to the presence of severe kyphosis, and there was a risk of damage to surrounding organs during fenestrated resection.
