3 alpha,7 beta-Dihydroxy-22,23-methylene-5 beta-cholan-24-oic acid (CUDCA) (2a), a side-chain cyclopropylog of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) was shown to be a mixture of four stereoisomers (CUDCA A-D). The 22S,23R, and 22R,23S diastereoisomers have been separated, their respective configurations assigned by 13C NMR spectroscopy, and original synthetic schemes for their preparation elaborated. Moreover, theoretical models of the structure of UDCA and CUDCA A-D were built by using molecular computer graphic techniques. It was shown that the four diastereoisomers greatly differ in hydrophilicity, in critical micellar concentration (CMC) in water, and exhibit a different interaction with intestinal bacterial enzymes. It was also shown that CUDCA A-C are not conjugated with glycine or taurine in the liver, while CUDCA D is secreted into bile predominantly as taurine and glycine conjugate.

Positron emission tomography (PET) has significantly advanced our understanding of the brain by enabling non-invasive imaging and quantification of molecular processes, including receptor binding. In this review, we explore the development and application of PET radioligands targeting the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR), a receptor implicated in various central nervous system (CNS) diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia and cognitive disorders. Despite challenges associated with the low density of α7 nAChRs and difficulties in achieving adequate brain penetration, several promising radioligands have been developed, including C-(R)-MeQAA, C-NS14492 and F-ASEM.

Purpose: Although there is a growing body of evidence showing the effects of stress-related catecholamines on oral cancer progression, to date there are no studies that have investigated whether oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells can produce these hormones and whether this phenomenon is modulated by tobacco-related nitrosamines.
Methods: In this study, we investigated whether keratinocytes (HaCaT) and OSCC-derived cell lines (SSC9 and SCC25) can secrete the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, as well as the effects of the tobacco carcinogen 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) on norepinephrine secretion and OSCC proliferation.

In this study, we heterologously expressed the GH5 family endo-β-1,4-glucanase A (AnglA5) from Aspergillus niger in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). The recombinant AnglA5 (reAnglA5) demonstrated optimal activity at 50 °C and pH 5.0, with Mn markedly enhancing catalytic efficiency, whereas Cu showed potent inhibitory effects.

Mechanical loading could affect bone remodeling, which involves the balance between bone resorption and formation. During bone remodeling, osteoblasts act as the primary sensors of mechanical signals, as well as the effectors to translate these signals into bone remodeling.
