Immunoglobulin G is the abundant antibody present in the colostrum and milk of major dairy animals. In the present study, buffalo milk IgG was characterized for its amino acid sequence and glycan diversity using reverse phase liquid chromatography coupled to ESI-Q-TOF MS in tandem mode. Amino acid sequence analysis of heavy chain constant region revealed the presence of two IgG subtypes namely IgG1 and IgG3, with IgG1 being the abundant. The complete light chain constant region sequence was also determined. N-glycan sequence analysis at a highly conserved site Asn-Ser-Thr revealed the presence of mainly biantennary complex type with core fucosylation (34%), bisecting GlcNAc (19%) and sialylation with both Neu5Ac and Neu5Gc (14%). The observed glycan diversity in buffalo milk IgG is in part comparable with bovine colostrum as well as human, bovine, goat serum counterparts.

Paratuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by subspecies (MAP). Typically, ruminant animals including cattle, buffalo, goats, and sheep are infected with MAP. Animals get infected with MAP in a number of ways, such as by eating or drinking contaminated food or water, or by nursing from an infected mother who may have contaminated teats or directly shed the organism in milk or colostrum.

December 2024

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Buffalo Milk Quality and Safety Control Technology Engineering Research Center, Guangxi Buffalo Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nanning 530001, China.

Background/objectives: Milk is one of the main sources of nutrition in people's daily diet, but the fat in milk raises health concerns in consumers. Here, we aimed to elucidate the impact of Buffalo milk and Holstein cow milk consumption on blood lipid health through metabolomics analysis.

Methods: Golden hamsters were administered Murrah Buffalo milk (BM) or Holstein cow milk (HM), and the body weight and serum lipid indicators were tested and recorded.

The emergence of pandrug-resistant (PDR) and extensive drug-resistant (XDR) methicillin-resistant and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and VRSA) isolates from bovine milk samples along with biofilm formation ability and harboring various virulence genes complicates the treatment of bovine mastitis and highlights the serious threat to public health. This study investigated for the first time the frequency, antimicrobial resistance profiles, biofilm-forming ability, virulence factors, spa and staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types of MRSA and VRSA isolated from clinical and subclinical bovine mastitis in Egypt. A total of 808 milk samples were collected from each quarter of 202 dairy animals, including 31 buffaloes and 171 cattle.

Despite buffalo milk being an important food worldwide, not much is known about factors that influence its quality on Brazilian buffalo milk farms. It ranks second in total volume of milk production, with cow milk in first place, but a lack of minimum legal parameters for buffalo milk is another problem faced by some countries, as it happens in Brazil where buffalo population represents less than one percent of dairy cows, even though Brazilian buffalo herd is one of the largest in Latin America, with a successful dairy processing chain. This study investigated the composition and somatic cell counts (SCC) of buffalo milk produced in a high-altitude tropical region in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where buffalo calving naturally happens from February to May.

Binglangjiang buffalo fermented milk (BBFM) is rich in bioactive peptides and exhibits significant immunomodulatory activity, although the specific components and effects are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory activity peptides from BBFM using peptidomics and proteomics. A total of 769 peptides were identified using LC-MS/MS.
