Background And Aim: Histopathological Evaluation of surgical margins of a resected tumour specimen can give an insight about the extent of tumour spread. Errors in proper identification and orientation of resected tumour margins can lead to treatment failure and poor prognosis. Inking of resected margins is the most reliable and safe method. The aim of this study is to systematically review the studies which compares various materials used for inking of surgically resected specimen.
Materials And Methods: Articles searched from PubMed, Cochrane, Google search, manual search using key words - inking, tissue marking dyes, surgical margin, tumour margin, surgical pathology, grossing, gross specimens and back references of the articles, yielded three articles. Three articles with a total sample size of 1325 and compares properties of India ink, Acrylic colours and Tissue Marking Dyes were considered in this review.
Results: Both India ink and acrylic colours are good with respect to the Ease of application, visibility on paraffin wax blocks, Visibility on naked eye examination of slides and Visibility on microscope. Acrylic colours have less drying time than India ink. India ink do not result in contamination of tissue processing fluids, Interference with cellular and nuclear details and penetration in to tissues when compared with acrylic colours.
Conclusion: India Ink will continue to dominate as the best surgical ink when comparing all the parameters till newer studies are available for acrylic colours or other dyes. Acrylic colours have the potential to be widely used as a tissue marking dyes except for the few disadvantages.

Hydrogels are popular materials for desalination and can significantly reduce the vaporization enthalpy of water; however, there are few reports on hydrogels with a controllable multilevel structural design for water evaporation. Herein, a calcium alginate and traditional Chinese ink-based evaporator (CIE) are proposed and fabricated using directed freezing technology to construct radial channels, followed by freeze-drying and physical cross-linking. Because of the squeezing of ice crystals and the shaping effect of the PDMS template, the prepared evaporator exhibits a sea-urchin-shaped highly geometrical centrosymmetric structure with numerous multilevel pore channels, which promotes the rapid transport of water under different solar incidence angles as the sun rotates as well as overcomes the structural shrinkage of the hydrogel caused by insufficient water supply.

Introduction: Preoperative identification of the site of rectal cancer surgery is crucial for ensuring accurate tumor localization and resection. Commonly employed methods include contrast-enhanced enterography and endoscopic marking techniques, such as clipping and India ink tattooing. However, India ink tattooing poses challenges, including obstruction of the surgical field, ink leakage into the abdominal cavity, and potential complications such as peritonitis and adhesive bowel obstruction.

Soft robots based on actuators that can work in both on-ground and on-water situations are environmentally adaptable and can accomplish tasks in complex environments. However, most current amphibious actuators need external stimuli to move on water and require complex preparation processes. Herein, amphibious Ink-paper/polyethylene programmable actuators and robots are proposed, which are fabricated by rapidly brushing Chinese ink on paper.

The association between fungal positivity in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and other laboratory parameters in cryptococcal meningitis (CM) with or without HIV infection is unclear. India ink staining and culture were used to detect the Cryptococcus in the CSF during the treatment course. Hematology analysis and chemistry analysis of CSF were also performed.

The conversion of solar energy into heat for seawater desalination is emerging as a promising method. However, it requires further research on light absorption, thermal management, and salt deposition to improve water evaporation rates. This study introduces a 3D solar evaporator inspired by jellyfish utilizing honeycomb fabric (HF), which capitalizes on a synergistic effect between the periodically arranged concave unit structure and the Chinese ink and carbon black particles (ink@CB), achieving up to 98% light absorption with ink@CB-HF.
