This editorial launches the new culture section in the journal. Without any unchallengeable definition of 'culture', potential contributors may consider submissions under four headings: the arts and humanities relating to practice; regulatory culture; becoming a cultured practitioner; and psychiatry's cultural context. A new article type, 'Cultural reflections', has been created, and submissions may reflect any appropriate methodology, including those from the arts. Peer review (from methodologies outside psychiatry if appropriate) will assure quality. Our objectives are to establish BJPsych Bulletin as the 'journal of record' for cultural studies relevant to psychiatric service delivery and demonstrate equivalent quality between them and scientific studies.

Rural Revitalization (RR) is a key national strategy in China aimed at sustainable rural development and has gained significant attention. Given the unique characteristics of different villages, understanding differentiated paths to achieve RR is essential. This study introduces a new "5I Framework" (INDUS-INHAB-INDOC-INFRA-INCOM) to assess RR's overall development status (ODS) and differentiated paths.

Cultivated meat, produced using cell culture technology, is an alternative to conventional meat production that avoids the risks from enteric pathogens associated with animal slaughter and processing. Cultivated meat therefore has significant theoretical microbiological safety advantages, though limited information is available to validate this. This review discusses sources and vectors of microbial contamination throughout cultivated meat production, introduces industry survey data to evaluate current industry practices for monitoring and mitigating these hazards, and highlights future research needs.

The main pathogenic mechanism of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) is neuronal apoptosis induced by inflammatory mediators, in which microglial inflammation plays a crucial role. However, the exact pathogenic mechanism remains unclear. Previous studies have shown that the HIV-1 gp120 V3 loop can trigger inflammation in CHME-5 microglia.

In 2006, a PCR method was introduced to subtype by Sanger sequencing of an ≈610 bp amplicon of the 18S rRNA gene. This method, known as barcoding-PCR, has become widespread, although the primer pair used can amplify non- sequences, which can result in false positives. Barcoding-PCR is most effective with DNA extracted from cultures, limiting its sensitivity when used directly with stool samples.
