. To study the effect of dose-rate in the time evolution of chemical yields produced in pure water versus a cellular-like environment for FLASH radiotherapy research.A version of TOPAS-nBio with Tau-Leaping algorithm was used to simulate the homogenous chemistry stage of water radiolysis using three chemical models: (1) liquid water model that considered scavenging of, Hby dissolved oxygen; (2) Michaels & Hunt model that considered scavenging ofOH,, and Hby biomolecules existing in cellular environment; (3) Wardman model that considered model 2) and the non-enzymatic antioxidant glutathione (GSH).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effects of electrolytic versus nonelectrolytic toothbrushing on periodontal health and bacteria in dogs.
  • A total of 26 dogs participated, with one group using an electrolytic toothbrush and the other using a standard toothbrush, and both groups underwent oral examinations and bacterial sampling over an eight-week period.
  • Results showed significant improvements in gum and calculus indices in the electrolytic group, while the control group experienced a worsening plaque index and increased levels of harmful bacteria.

Background: Despite efforts to mitigate a projected primary care physician (PCP) shortage required to meet an aging, growing, and increasingly insured population, shortages remain, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, growing inequity, and persistent underinvestment.

Objective: We examined primary care workforce trends over the past decade and revisited projected primary care clinician workforce needs through the year 2040.

Design And Participants: Using data from the AMA Masterfile and Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), we analyzed trends in the number of primary care physicians (PCPs) and in outpatient PCP visits by age and gender over the past decade.

Identification, spatial distribution, and associated factors of urban protected areas in China.

Conserv Biol

December 2024

Department of Landscape Architecture, College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China.

The increasing proximity between protected areas (PAs) and urban areas, which can lead to urban protected areas (UPAs), is now commonplace. Use of Euclidean distance to measure the distance between PAs and cities has not correctly portrayed the spatial relationship between PAs and cities. We devised an isochronous circle model to accurately measure the distance between 2706 national PAs in 5 categories and 2844 cities in China based on human accessibility to identify urban human activity-influenced protected areas (UHAIPAs) and to quantitatively analyze their distribution patterns and relationships with China's economy, population distribution patterns, and urban development indicators.

PAI-1 deficiency drives pulmonary vascular smooth muscle remodeling and pulmonary hypertension.

Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol

September 2024

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease characterized by vasoconstriction and remodeling of small pulmonary arteries (PAs). Central to the remodeling process is a switch of pulmonary vascular cells to a proliferative, apoptosis-resistant phenotype. Plasminogen activator inhibitors-1 and -2 (PAI-1 and PAI-2) are the primary physiological inhibitors of urokinase-type and tissue-type plasminogen activators (uPA and tPA), but their roles in PAH are unsettled.
