Isolated thrombocytopenia in adults is a common clinical problem, often caused by various hematological disorders. However, vitamin B12 deficiency as a rare cause of isolated thrombocytopenia has been rarely reported in the medical literature. This case report aims to highlight the diagnostic challenges associated with atypical presentations of thrombocytopenia and emphasizes the importance of considering nutritional deficiencies, such as vitamin B12 deficiency, in the diagnostic workup.

This study evaluated and compared the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), sensitivity, specificity, and efficiency of the high-end hematology analyzers, Yumizen H2500, DxH 800, DxH 900 and XN-9000 (XN-10). A total of 400 anonymized left over's K2 EDTA whole blood samples were analyzed for complete blood count. Of 400 samples, 200 were tested on Yumizen H2500; DxH 800 & DxH 900 while the other 200 were tested on Yumizen H2500 & XN-9000 (XN-10), respectively.

To date, metformin remains the first-line oral glucose-lowering drug used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes thanks to its well-established long-term safety and efficacy profile. Indeed, metformin is the most widely used oral insulin-sensitizing agent, being prescribed to more than 100 million people worldwide, including patients with prediabetes, insulin resistance, and polycystic ovary syndrome. However, over the last decades several observational studies and meta-analyses have reported a significant association between long-term metformin therapy and an increased prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency.
