The cGMP-dependent protein kinase in (PfPKG) plays multiple roles in the life cycle of the parasite. As a result, this enzyme is a potential target for new antimalarial agents. Existing inhbitors, while potent and active in malaria models are not optimal. This communication describes initial optimization of a structurally distinct class of PfPKG inhibitors.

Decapod crustaceans regulate molting through steroid molting hormones, ecdysteroids, synthesized by the molting gland (Y-organ, YO). Molt-inhibiting hormone (MIH), a neuropeptide synthesized and secreted by the eyestalk ganglia, negatively regulates YO ecdysteroidogenesis. MIH signaling is mediated by cyclic nucleotide second messengers.

Based on transcriptomics technology, this study investigated the molecular mechanisms of Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction in treating chronic atrophic gastritis(CAG), which were confirmed through experimental validation. The CAG rat model was built by the MNNG composite multi-factor method, followed by a 90-day administration of Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction. The study measured the rat body mass and 3-hour food intake in each group and observed the pathological changes in gastric tissue using HE staining.

cGMP plays a central role in cardiovascular regulation in health and disease. It is synthesized by NO or natriuretic peptide activated cyclases and hydrolyzed to 5'GMP by select members of the PDEs (phosphodiesterase) superfamily. The primary downstream effector is cGMP-dependent protein kinase, primarily cGK-1a (cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase 1 alpha) also known as protein kinase G 1a in the heart and vasculature.

Light sensing is a critical function in most organisms and is mediated by photoreceptor proteins and phototransduction. Although most nematodes lack eyes, some species exhibit phototaxis. In the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, the unique photoreceptor protein Cel-LITE-1, its downstream G proteins, and cyclic GMP (cGMP)-dependent pathways are required for phototransduction.
