Group B (hereinafter GBS) is the main pathogen in neonatal sepsis and meningitis, accounting for approximately one quarter of the cases. 1) Prevention of infection is therefore crucial. The GBS carriage testing of pregnant women is necessary to prevent infections. In this study, we examined the clinical utility of Pourmedia ViGBS agar medium (Eiken Chemical Co., Ltd.) in GBS screening, using a total of 197 vaginal and urine samples. Of these samples, 32 (16.2%) tested GBS positive with Pourmedia ViGBS agar medium, and 29 (14.7%) tested GBS positive with Nissui separated plate sheep blood agar/Drigalski agar medium (Nissui Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.). These results indicate the usefulness of Pourmedia ViGBS agar medium as a GBS screening selective agar medium.

Aim: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of ozonated sunflower oil (Oz) as an adjunctive of non-surgical periodontal therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), on fibroblast cell viability and migration and the effectiveness of Oz on a Candida albicans (C. albicans) culture.
Methodology: In total, 32 sites in 16 DM2 with moderate to advanced periodontal disease with periodontal pocket depths ≥5mm were selected.

Research Background: The use of plant extracts in the biological control of fungal plant diseases can reduce the use of fungicides and residues in food by effectively suppressing mycotoxigenic microorganisms. The focus of interest is therefore finding plant extracts that have antifungal properties and are not toxic to organisms, so that they can be used for the biological control of economically important phytopathogenic fungi such as . Species of the genus are considered economically important pathogenic fungi of numerous agricultural crops, which not only cause significant losses but also produce mycotoxins that reach consumers through food.

We observed that an exonuclease VII ( ) mutant of failed to grow on TCBS agar, suggesting that DNA repair mutant strains may be hampered for growth in this selective media. Examination of the selective components of TCBS revealed that bile acids were primarily responsible for toxicity of the mutant.

To visualize the nonself recognition reaction in the cultivated mushroom Agaricus bisporus, we developed a method using the azo dye Evans blue. The use of Evans blue highlights dead mycelial sections, which are produced following nonself recognition in the interaction zone between two individuals. This method can differentiate between distinct heterokaryons, as well as between closely related heterokaryons constructed from siblings.
