Power generation through the thermoelectric (TE) effect in small-sized devices requires a submillimeter-thick film that is beneficial to effectively maintain Δ compared with a micron-scale thin film. However, most TE thick films, which are fabricated using printing technologies, suffer from low electrical conductivity due to the porous structures formed after sintering of the organic binder-mixed TE ink. In this study, we report an n-type TE thick film fabricated through bar-coating of the edge-oxidized-graphene (EOG)-dispersed BiTeSe (BTS) paste with copper dopants. We have found that EOG provides the conducting pathway for carriers through electrical bridging between the separated BTS grains in porous TE thick films. The simultaneous enhancement in electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient of the EOG-bridged TE film result in a maximum power factor of 1.54 mW·m·K with the addition of 0.01 wt % EOG. Furthermore, the single element made of an n-type EOG-bridged BTS exhibits a superior output power of 1.65 μW at Δ = 80 K. These values are 5 times higher than those of bare BTS films. Our results clearly indicate that the utilization of EOG with a metal dopant exerts a synergistic effect for enhancing the electrical output performance of n-type TE thick films for thermal energy harvesters.

Ultrathin MWCNT/TiCT Hybrid Films for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

National Key Laboratory of Scattering and Radiation, Beijing 100854, China.

The disordered assembly and low conductivity of carbon nanotubes are the main problems that limit the application of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. In this work, an ordered lamellar assembly structure of multiwalled carbon nanotube/TiCT (MWCNT/TiCT) hybrid films was achieved by vacuum-assisted filtration through the hybridization of TiCT nanosheets and carbon nanotubes, where carbon nanotubes were tightly sticking on the surface of TiCT nanosheets via physical adsorption and hydrogen bonding. Compared with the pure carbon nanotubes films, the hybrid MWCNT/TiCT films achieved a significant improvement in conductivity of 452.

Room-Temperature Magnetic Antiskyrmions in Canted Ferrimagnetic CoHo Alloy Films.

Magnetic antiskyrmions, the anti-quasiparticles of magnetic skyrmions, possess alternating Bloch- and Néel-type spin spirals, rendering them promising for advanced spintronics-based information storage. To date, antiskyrmions are demonstrated in a few bulk materials featuring anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and a limited number of artificial multilayers. Identifying novel film materials capable of hosting isolated antiskyrmions is critical for memory applications in topological spintronics.

The discovery of ferroelectric phases in HfO-based films has reignited interest in ferroelectrics and their application in resistive switching (RS) devices. This study investigates the pivotal role of electrodes in facilitating the Schottky-to-Ohmic transition (SOT) observed in devices consisting of ultrathin epitaxial ferroelectric HfYO (YHO) films deposited on LaSrMnO-buffered Nb-doped SrTiO (NbSTO|LSMO) with Ti|Au top electrodes. These findings indicate combined filamentary RS and ferroelectric switching occurs in devices with designed electrodes, having an ON/OFF ratio of over 100 during about 10 cycles.

Objective: Currently, nasolabial folds are mainly removed by invasive procedures, resulting in long-lasting changes, as non-surgical user-implementable alternatives are scarce and inefficient. For example, the use of coating films for this purpose has thus far faced substantial difficulties because such films should combine the antithetical properties of shrinkability and flexibility. Herein, we challenge this status quo by identifying a polymer that simultaneously exhibits shrinkability and flexibility and using this polymer to develop a cosmetic formulation for immediate and non-invasive nasolabial fold removal.

Microwave welding with SiCNW/PMMA nanocomposite thin films: Enhanced joint strength and performance.

Most previously reported susceptors for microwave welding are in powder form. In this study, a thin-film susceptor was employed due to its uniform heating rate and ease of handling. Silicon carbide nanowhisker (SiCNW) were incorporated into a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix to create a nanocomposite thin film, which served as the susceptor.
