Objective: Non Alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) associated with hypertension (HTN) is an emerging health issue globally. It is associated with increased levels of apoptotic marker CK18. Main objective of this study was to explore association of cytokeratin18 (CK18) with hypertension (HTN) in NAFLD patients.

Methods: Descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in Mayo hospital Lahore. Hundred NAFLD subjects were enrolled from OPD of radiology department after approval from ethical review committee. Anthropometric measurements were taken and blood pressure (BP) was measured by mercury sphygmomanometer. Blood samples were drawn from each patient for CK18 levels with ELISA. Data was analyzed by SPSS 20. Continuous variables were presented as mean± SD. Association between CK18 and HTN were analyzed by regression analysis and results were presented as beta coefficient. P <0.05 was taken as significant.

Results: Mean age of studied subjects was 43.8±5.34 with height (m), weight (kg) and BMI 1.59±0.063 m, 78.2±11.17 kg, 30.5±4.07kg/m2 respectively. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were 106±12.8, 72± 12.8mmHg. CK 18 was not significantly associated with systolic (P value 0.55) and diastolic BP (P value 0.37) most probably due to small size of study.

Conclusions: Most of the NAFLD patients were hypertensive and have raised CK18 levels than normotensive subjects. So, raised levels of CK18 in NAFLD subjects might be helpful in early screening of HTN. However, significant association was not observed probably due to small sample size.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the foremost cause of global dementia, also characterized by retinal changes involving Aβ, hyperphosphorylated-tau (p-tau), neuronal degeneration, and tissue atrophy. Mitochondrial-driven reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, linked to synaptic dysfunction, is common to various neurodegenerative conditions, including AD. Despite synaptic dysfunction being an early predictor of cognitive decline in AD, its occurrence in the AD retina is unexplored.

Background: Sporadic Alzheimer's disease (sAD) is the most prevalent type of dementia, characterized by progressive neurodegeneration. Intracerebroventricular (ICV) administration of streptozotocin (STZ) serves as a model for sAD, inducing neurodegeneration through oxidative stress, apoptotic damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neuroinflammation. Fenchone, a monoterpenoid, has been reported to possess neuroprotective properties by attenuating oxidative stress, acetylcholinesterase activity, mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) in the extracellular space, which leads to various adverse effects such as oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, tau phosphorylation, synapse loss, and neurodegeneration. Therefore, therapeutic interventions that can reduce Aβ-toxicity and slow down the progression of cognitive dysfunction in AD have significance. One promising approach is to use extracellular vesicles (EVs) that are released by neural stem cells (NSCs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs).

Introduction: Dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), a small molecular compound extracted from celery seeds, has been shown to exhibit diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anti-apoptotic effects. Recent studies have highlighted its efficacy in treating various cardiovascular conditions, such as myocardial infarction, hypertrophy, heart failure, and cardiotoxicity. This study aimed to investigate whether NBP could alleviate cardiac dysfunction and injury following hemorrhage-induced cardiac arrest (HCA) in a porcine model and elucidate its potential mechanisms.

The present study aims to explore the anticancer efficacy of Diosmin by inducing mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis in human epidermoid carcinoma cells (Hep-2). This is done by cell line assays and studying crucial inflammatory and apoptotic signaling molecules. The cytotoxicity property of Diosmin was evaluated by MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay.
