The Gekkonidae is the second-most-numerous Family in Sauria and widely distributed around the world. In this paper, the complete mitochondrial genomes of two gecko species, and , were sequenced. The lengths of the two mitochondrial genomes ( and ) are 17 956 bp and 17 769 bp, respectively. These mitochondrial genomes both contain 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and a non-coding region (control region). The overall base compositions of the H-strand of and are 32.1% A, 26.7% T, 27.0% C, 14.2% G and 31.6% A, 25.2% T, 28.6% C, 14.7% G, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that is a sister clade with . has a close phylogenetic relationship to the clade of and .

The Ogura cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) line of has gained significant attention for its use in harnessing heterosis. It remains unaffected by temperature and environment and is thorough and stable. The Ogura cytoplasmic restorer line of is derived from the distant hybridization of and , but it carried a large number of radish fragments into , because there is no homologous allele of the restorer gene in , transferring it becomes challenging.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a common and serious health issue among older men globally. Metabolic reprogramming, particularly involving lactate and mitochondria, plays a key role in PCa progression, but studies linking these factors to prognosis are limited. To identify novel prognostic markers of PCa based on lactate-mitochondria-related genes (LMRGs), RNA sequencing data and clinical information of PCa from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the cBioPortal database were used to construct a lactate-mitochondria-related risk signature.

Background: Our previous studies have established that the broad-spectrum anti-epileptic drug lamotrigine (LTG) confers protection against cognitive impairments, synapse and nerve cell damage, as well as characteristic neuropathologies in APP/PS1 mice, a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the precise molecular mechanisms responsible for this protective effect induced by LTG remain largely elusive.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of LTG against AD.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disorder that can lead to right ventricular failure and severe consequences. Despite extensive efforts, limited progress has been made in preventing the progression of PAH. Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in the development of PAH, but the key mitochondrial functional alterations in the pathogenesis have yet to be elucidated.

Comprehensive analysis of 111 Pleuronectiformes mitochondrial genomes: insights into structure, conservation, variation and evolution.

BMC Genomics

January 2025

Institute of Aquatic Biotechnology, College of Life Sciences, Qingdao University, Qingdao, Shandong, 266071, China.

Background: Pleuronectiformes, also known as flatfish, are important model and economic animals. However, a comprehensive genome survey of their important organelles, mitochondria, has been limited. Therefore, we aim to analyze the genomic structure, codon preference, nucleotide diversity, selective pressure and repeat sequences, as well as reconstruct the phylogenetic relationship using the mitochondrial genomes of 111 flatfish species.
