The ability to accurately identify proximity to momentary failure during a set of resistance exercise might be important to maximise training adaptations. This study examined the association between perceptual fatigue and the accuracy of the estimated repetitions to failure (ERF). Twenty-seven males and eleven females performed sets of 10 repetitions at specific loads for the chest press and leg-press. Following the completion of 10 repetitions, participants rated their fatigue and ERF and then proceeded to concentric failure (actual repetitions to failure) to determine the ERF accuracy (i.e., error-ERF). Small correlations were found between perceptual fatigue and error-ERF for the chest-press ( = -0.26, = 0.001) and the leg-press ( = -0.18, = 0.013). For actual repetitions to failure and error-ERF, a strong correlation was found for the chest-press ( = 0.68, < 0.001) and a very strong correlation was foundfor the leg-press ( = 0.73, < 0.001). Moderate correlations were found between perceptual fatigue and actual repetitions to failure for the chest-press ( = -0.42, < 0.001) and leg-press ( = -0.40, < 0.001). Overall, findings suggest that the accuracy of the estimated repetitions to failure is more strongly associated with proximity to task repetition failure rather than subjective feelings of fatigue.

This review focuses on the modulation of skeletal muscle function, mitochondrial adaptation and function, redox state by NO, and the effect of nitrate supplementation on exercise performance. In skeletal muscle function, NO is believed to increase the maximal shortening velocity and peak power output of muscle fibers.

Background: A recent advancement in velocity-based training involves estimating the maximum number of repetitions to failure (RTF) by analyzing the fastest velocity recorded within a set. A systematic review examining the fundamental characteristics of the RTF-velocity relationship is still lacking.
Purpose: This study aimed to (1) determine the basic properties of the RTF-velocity relationships (goodness of fit, reliability, and accuracy) and (2) offer guidance on implementing various methodological factors that can impact the RTF accuracy prediction.

The objectives of this case series study were to test whether an elastic back exosuit could increase a wearer's endurance when lifting heavy objects and to assess whether lifting more cancels out the exosuit's risk reduction benefits. We found that 88% of participants increased their lifting repetitions while wearing an exosuit, with endurance increases ranging from 28 to 75%. We then used these empirical data with an ergonomic assessment model based on fatigue failure principles to estimate the effects on cumulative back damage (an indicator of low back disorder risk) when an exosuit is worn and more lifts are performed.
