Optical phantoms are used to validate optical measurement methods. The stability of their optical parameters over time allows them to be used and stored over long-term periods, while maintaining their optical parameters. The aim of the presented research was to investigate the stability of fabricated porous phantoms, which can be used as a lung phantom in optical system. Measurements were performed in multiple series with an interval of 6 months, recreating the same conditions and using the same measuring system consisting of an integrating sphere, a coherent light source with a wavelength of 635 nm and a detector. Scattering and absorption parameters were determined on the basis of the measured reflectance and transmittance. The tested samples were made of silicone and glycerol in various proportions.

Background: Optical spectral transmission (OST) is a modern diagnostic method capable of quantifying inflammation in the finger and wrist joints of arthritis patients by assessing the blood-specific absorption of light transmitted through a tissue. The diagnostic performance of this modality has not been adequately examined and data regarding OST associations with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are limited. Aim of this study was therefore to investigate the performance of OST in assessing joint inflammation as compared to MRI in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA).

Methods: All iERM eyes were graded into four stages based on the presence of ectopic inner foveal layers (EIFL) and underwent 23-gauge vitrectomy combined with ERM and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, while their fellow eyes were treated as the control group. OCTA was used to measure retinal thickness(RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ)-related parameters and superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP) layers using 6 × 6 mm scans before, 1 month and 3 months after surgery.

Background: The post-operative evaluation of trabeculectomy blebs has traditionally relied on subjective clinical grading systems performed at the slit-lamp. This study explores the use of swept source anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to objectively measure bleb internal reflectivity and morphology, and to distinguish blebs with surgical success vs. failure.

This paper presents an all-optical 4 × 2 encoder based on graphene-plasmonic waveguides for operation in the wavelength range of 8-12 μm. The basic plasmonic waveguide consists of a silicon (Si) strip and a graphene sheet supported by two dielectric ridges. Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are stimulated in the spatial gap between the graphene sheet and the Si strip.

Integrating metasurfaces on-chip offers a promising strategy for modulating and extracting guided waves, suggesting tremendous applications in compact wearable devices. However, despite the full acquisition of on-chip manipulation of optical parameters, including phase, amplitude, and polarization, the functionality of on-chip metasurfaces remains limited by the lack of wavelength selectivity. Here, an on-chip approach to differentiate wavelength components is proposed in the visible regime for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM).
