Background: Despite significant technological advances in the implantable pulse generator (IPG), complications can still occur. We report a case that unexpected extrusion of the IPG of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) was promptly identified and successfully removed without any complications.
Case: After a car accident 4 years ago, a 55-year-old male who was diagnosed with complex local pain syndrome in his right leg. The SCS was inserted with 2 leads, with the IPG being implanted in the right lower abdomen region. Four years later, he developed extrusion of the IPG from his abdominal region. This unexpected extrusion may have been related to pressure necrosis caused by continued compression of pocket site where a belt was frequently tied. The IPG and the leads were successfully removed without infection occurring.
Conclusions: To prevent unexpected extrusion of IPG, it is necessary to consider in advance whether the pocket site is pressed against the belt.

Background: Unexpected events such as instrument breakage during a routine lumbar microdiscectomy can pose a risk for nerve root injury, durotomy, infection, and anterior displacement into the retroperitoneal space. Removal of broken instruments requires planning, patience, and sometimes subsequent surgical procedures. Here, the authors explore the effectiveness of a magnetic probe for the retrieval of broken metallic (magnetic) pieces.

Evasion of cell death is a hallmark of cancer, and consequently the induction of cell death is a common strategy in cancer treatment. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating different types of cell death are poorly understood. We have formerly shown that in the epidermis of hypomorphic zebrafish hai1a mutant embryos, pre-neoplastic transformations of keratinocytes caused by unrestrained activity of the type II transmembrane serine protease Matriptase-1 heal spontaneously.

Bosutinib has been approved for use in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia. Information regarding the effects of bosutinib on clinically important drug transporters is limited, particularly regarding its inhibitory potency on transporters and in vivo effects. Therefore, we conducted a study investigating the in vitro and in vivo effects of bosutinib on drug transporters.

Excessive accumulation of chromium (Cr) causes severe damage to both physiological and biochemical processes and consequently growth repression in plants. Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)]-elicited alterations in plants have been widely elucidated at either physiological or molecular level, whereas little is known about trivalent chromium [Cr(III)]. Here, we found that both Cr(III) and Cr(VI) significantly inhibited root growth in rice plants.

During heart development, the embryonic ventricle becomes enveloped by the epicardium, which adheres to the outer apical surface of the heart. This is concomitant with onset of ventricular trabeculation, where a subset of cardiomyocytes lose apicobasal polarity and delaminate basally from the ventricular wall. Llgl1 regulates the formation of apical cell junctions and apicobasal polarity, and we investigated its role in ventricular wall maturation.
