The metal-free catalytic hydrogenation of secondary carboxylic acid amides is developed. The reduction is realized by two new catalytic reactions. First, the amide is converted into the imidoyl chloride by triphosgene (CO(OCCl ) ) using novel phosphorus(V) catalysts. Second, the in situ generated imidoyl chlorides are hydrogenated in high yields by an FLP-catalyst. Mechanistic and quantum mechanical calculations support an autoinduced catalytic cycle for the hydrogenation with chloride acting as unusual Lewis base for FLP-mediated H -activation.

Background: Diagnosing laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is challenging due to overlapping symptoms. While proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are commonly prescribed, reliable predictors of their responsiveness are unclear. Reflux monitoring technologies like dual potential of hydrogen (pH) sensors and multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) could improve diagnosis.

The selective hydrogenation of nitrile compounds represents a pivotal area of research within both industrial and academic catalysis. In this study, we prepared Ni-Cu bimetallic catalysts through a co-deposition-crystallization sequence, aimed at the efficient production of primary and secondary amines. The enhanced selectivity for primary amines is attributed to the downshift of the d-band center of NiCu, which weakens the adsorption of key imine intermediates.

Background: Recent studies show that the increase in breath hydrogen (BH) and symptoms after ingestion of inulin is reduced by co-administering psyllium.

Objectives: To determine if slowing delivery of inulin to the colon by administering it in divided doses would mimic the effect of psyllium. Primary endpoint was the BH area under the curve AUC.

Hydrogen Bonding Polarization Strengthening the Peptide-Based Hydrogels.

Research Institute of Interdisciplinary Science & School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dongguan University of Technology, Dongguan 523808, China.

Peptide-based hydrogels form a kind of promising material broadly used in biomedicine and biotechnology. However, the correlation between their hydrogen bonding dynamics and mechanical properties remains uncertain. In this study, we found that the adoption of β-sheet and α-helix secondary structures by ECF-5 and GFF-5 peptides, respectively, could further form fiber networks to immobilize water molecules into hydrogels.
