In this paper, we characterized the mitogenomes of three 'eyed' turtles, the Beal's Eyed turtle (), the Four Eye-spotted turtle (), and the Hainan Four Eye-spotted turtle which was a unique lineage in the four-eyed turtle and considered as an independent species recently. The full lengths of the and mitogenomes are 16,564 bp, and 16,555 bp, respectively, while the length of partial mitochondrial genome of is 16,433 bp without tailed part of D-loop. All the genes exhibit the typical mitochondrial gene arrangement and transcribing directions of turtles. Phylogenetic analysis indicating that a deep divergence about 7.8% p distance was found between and (), and the divergence (2.8% in patristic distance) between and is comparable with other closely related species in turtles.

Metapopulation dynamics can be shaped by foraging ecology, and thus be sensitive to shifts in prey availability. Genotyping 204 North Atlantic killer whales at 1346 loci, we investigated whether spatio-temporal population structuring is linked to prey type and distribution. Using population-based methods (reflecting evolutionary means), we report a widespread metapopulation connected across ecological groups based upon nuclear genome SNPs, yet spatial structuring based upon mitogenome haplotypes.

Crimsonwings are estrildid finches found in the understory of montane rainforests of sub-Saharan Africa. The genus includes four species: Sharpe 1902, Sharpe 1902, (Hartlaub 1874), and Reichenow 1892. The first two are endemic to the Albertine Rift, while the latter two are more widespread.

Background: Plant mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) exhibit extensive structural variation yet extremely low nucleotide mutation rates, phenomena that remain only partially understood. The genus Gossypium, a globally important source of cotton, offers a wealth of long-read sequencing resources to explore mitogenome and plastome variation and dynamics accompanying the evolutionary divergence of its approximately 50 diploid and allopolyploid species.
Results: Here, we assembled 19 mitogenomes from Gossypium species, representing all genome groups (diploids A through G, K, and the allopolyploids AD) based on a uniformly applied strategy.
