The empathy and quality of communication between the physician and patient is believed to correlate with patient satisfaction and knowledge of the diagnoses and treatment plan. Examining patients' understanding of their plan can allow providers to better aid patients upon their discharge from the hospital in the hopes of improving home care compliance. We sought to evaluate factors that we hypothesized to have an impact on a patient's ability to understand their medical management plan in the inpatient setting. Over a 14-month period, patients were given a 10-question survey during their stay on the inpatient medical units at a safety-net tertiary care community hospital. The survey was given to patients to self-complete after our research team introduced it. A total of 366 patients were surveyed. Of the patients surveyed, more than two-thirds of participants had a clear idea of the management plan for their condition (68.5%), while 3.1% had no knowledge of their management plan. Significant associations between knowledge of the management plan and participants knowing their attending physician's name ( < .0005), participants having a primary care physician ( < .0001), and educational background ( < .0387) were found. These assessed factors can be addressed with quality communication and a strong patient-physician relationship. Accomplishing these 2 objectives with the gained knowledge of patient beliefs and perceptions from our study will likely lead to the patient having a much clearer idea of how their medical condition is being treated by his/her team and have overall positive health implications.

The management of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) concurrent with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) lacks standardized guidelines, especially concerning surgical strategies. This study aimed to compare unilateral thyroidectomy (UT) with total thyroidectomy (TT) in PTC-HT patients to optimize clinical management and improve postoperative outcomes. This retrospective study included PTC-HT patients undergoing thyroid surgery at a tertiary academic medical institution from January 2018 to August 2023.

The randomness and volatility of existing clean energy sources have increased the complexity of grid scheduling. To address this issue, this work proposes an artificial intelligence (AI) empowered method based on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) big data platform, focusing on multi-objective scheduling optimization for clean energy. This work employs a combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Deep Q-Network (DQN) to enhance grid scheduling efficiency and clean energy utilization.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as crucial regulators in cancer progression. We found lncRNA DNM1P35 is elevated in ovarian tumors compared to normal tissues, and demonstrated that lncRNA DNM1P35 promoted cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion in SK-OV-3 and OVCAR-3 cell lines. Furthermore, lncRNA DNM1P35 also facilitated the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of ovarian cancer cells.

Prefabricated construction involves manufacturing components in a factory and then transporting them to a construction site for assembly, yielding resource savings and improved efficiency. However, the large size and weight of prefabricated components, along with strict delivery requirements, introduce logistical challenges, such as increased carbon emissions during transport and site congestion. This study addresses the dual-objective vehicle scheduling problem for prefabricated components.
