This paper is the continuation of our previous work on the ability of biocomposites based on sol-gel alumina (boehmite) to promote skin recovery from burns and atrophic scars. The present study describes the increasing of the cytoplasma volume and the number of filopodias of HDF cells, which for the first time indicates their proliferation on the alumina itself and on alumina-based biocomposite. Studies in vivo confirm the efficiency of the composite in the treatment of atrophic scars.

In this work, the simple fabrication of a new superhydrophobic magnetic sponge based on CNTs, NiFeO nanoparticles, and PDMS was investigated. CNTs were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on a nickel ferrite catalyst supported on aluminum oxide (NiFeO/AlO). The synthesis of nickel ferrite (NiFe) was accomplished using the sol-gel method, yielding magnetic nanoparticles (43 Amkg, coercivity of 93 Oe, 21-29 nm).

Enhanced dust reduction method for solar panels application.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Sharif Center of Excellence in Energy Conversion (CEEC), Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technology, Azadi Avenue, P. O. Box 11365-9567, Tehran, Iran.

Article Synopsis
  • A new dual-layer coating technique for solar panels uses a translucent aluminum zinc oxide film to actively repel dust, enhancing durability and energy efficiency.
  • A secondary TiO2-infused coating, applied through a cost-effective method, passively boosts the panels' ability to stay clean.
  • Tests show that these coatings improve clarity, reduce dust buildup, and maintain energy production even in low-wind conditions, supporting solar energy use in various climates.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the use of bioabsorbable materials, specifically polylactic acid (PLA) and hydroxyapatite (HAP), for maxillofacial reconstruction to avoid issues with traditional metallic implants.
  • It involves creating and testing several PLA-based nanocomposites with properties that improve strength and bioactivity, using techniques like ball milling and sol-gel methods for nanoparticle preparation.
  • Results show that the developed composites, PEAT and PHAT, exhibit favorable mechanical properties and cell viability, suggesting they are promising candidates for future use in maxillofacial implants.

Versatile Organogels of Aluminum Oxide Subnanosheets for Locking Solvents and Adhesion.

Precis Chem

January 2024

Key Lab of Organic Optoelectronics and Molecular Engineering, Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China.

Herein, we present a facile strategy to prepare versatile aluminum oxide subnanometer nanosheets with oleic acid and stearic acid ligands (OA-Al SNSs and SA-Al SNSs, respectively). The size effect endows subnanosheets with abundant acting sites, remarkable intermolecular interactions, and unique polymer-like properties, including flexibility, viscoelasticity, and sol-gel transitions, which is quite different from traditional inorganic materials. Consequently, subnanosheets could form freestanding organogels and OA-Al SNSs exhibit satisfying semisolidification of various solvents, making it an intriguing candidate for the safe storage and transportation of solvents.

October 2024

Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkiye.

Background/aim: YO-AlO-SiO (YAS) glass microspheres are currently used in radioembolization treatment. However, abscess formation can occur following this treatment. This study aims to endow YAS glass microspheres with antibacterial properties to address the abscesses forming in patients after radioembolization treatment.
