We report the reconfigurable assembly of rod-shaped eutectic gallium-indium alloy (EGaIn) liquid metal colloidal motors by mimicking the growth behavior of a dandelion. EGaIn nanorods with a diameter of 210 nm and a length of 850 nm were synthesized via an ultrasound-assisted physical dispersion method. The nanorods possess a core-shell structure with a 30 nm GaOOH shell and zero-valent liquid core. The EGaIn motors move autonomously at a speed of 41.2 μm s under an acoustic field. By modulating the frequency of the applied acoustic field, the EGaIn colloidal motors self-organize into various striped and circular patterns, followed by a flower-like cluster. The dandelion-like EGaIn colloidal motor clusters move collectively and redisperse when the applied acoustic frequency is changed. Numerical simulations reveal that the flower-like clusters are created by the acoustic propulsion in combination with steric repulsion and hydrodynamics.

Fano resonances in photonics arise from the coupling and interference between two resonant modes in structures with broken symmetry. They feature an uneven and narrow and tunable lineshape and are ideally suited for optical spectroscopy. Many Fano resonance structures have been suggested in nanophotonics over the last ten years, but reconfigurability and tailored design remain challenging.

Aggregation intermediates play a pivotal role in the assembly of amyloid fibrils, which are central to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. The structures of filamentous intermediates and mature fibrils are now efficiently determined by single-particle cryo-electron microscopy. By contrast, smaller pre-fibrillar α-Synuclein (αS) oligomers, crucial for initiating amyloidogenesis, remain largely uncharacterized.

Particle manipulation plays a pivotal role in scientific and technological domains such as materials science, physics, and the life sciences. Here, we present a dynamically reconfigurable acoustofluidic metasurface that enables precise trapping and positioning of microscale particles in fluidic environments. By harnessing acoustic-structure interaction in a passive membrane resonator array, we generate localized standing acoustic waves that can be reconfigured in real-time.

Kinetically controlled self-assembly is garnering increasing interest in the field of supramolecular polymers and materials, yet examples involving dynamic covalent exchange remain relatively unexplored. Here we report an unexpected dynamic covalent polymeric system whose aqueous self-assembly pathway is strongly influenced by the kinetics of evaporation of water. The key design is to integrate dual dynamic covalent bonds-including disulfide bonds and boroxine/borate-into a dynamic equilibrium system of monomers, polymers, and materials.

Microrobots are poised to transform biomedicine by enabling precise, noninvasive procedures. However, current magnetic microrobots, composed of solid monolithic particles, present fundamental challenges in engineering intersubunit interactions, limiting their collective effectiveness in navigating irregular biological terrains and confined spaces. To address this, we design hierarchically assembled microrobots with multiaxis mobility and collective adaptability by engineering the potential magnetic interaction energy between subunits to create stable, self-reconfigurable structures capable of carrying and protecting cargo internally.
