Meniscal pathology is one of the most common structural knee issues seen and managed by the orthopaedic surgeon. An ever-evolving armamentarium of management options exists that are geared toward the elimination of symptoms and restoration of normal knee function. A common theme among these management options is to preserve meniscal tissue whenever possible through repair or minimization of meniscal excision, as the literature has shown that the loss of meniscal tissue can significantly alter the distribution of forces and contact stresses on knee articular cartilage, thus predisposing the joint to degenerative osteoarthritis. In the setting of meniscal injuries or insufficiency, various advances in repair techniques, use of meniscal allografts, and use of biologic adjuvants have been reported to help preserve and/or attempt to restore the native kinematic properties of the knee. It is important to explore meniscal function, its associated pathologies, and currently available treatment options that are supported by short-term and long-term clinical data.

GRP78/BiP, a stress-induced protein and autoantigen in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), exhibits different expressions in various biological fluids and tissues, including blood, synovial fluid (SF), and synovium, all of which are pertinent to the disease activity and progression of RA; however, there is a scarcity of data linking both intracellular and extracellular GRP78/Bip to disease activity and progression of RA. This study was undertaken to investigate the differential expression of GRP78/Bip in blood, SF, and synovium, and to determine their association with disease activity and progression of RA. Patients with RA, osteoarthritis (OA), and traumatic meniscal injury (TMI) without radiographic OA were consecutively recruited for the study.

Background: Painful degeneration of the sternoclavicular joint refractory to nonoperative treatment has historically been managed with resection of the degenerative segment of the medial clavicle. Although this has produced good results with improvement in symptoms, recurrent pain necessitating revision surgery is not an infrequently encountered outcome. Objective: To explore the relationship between meniscus compression and the severity of knee osteoarthritis.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective case-control study included 95 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) admitted to our hospital from April 2021 to July 2023, who were grouped into slight protrusion of meniscus group (n = 48) and severe protrusion of meniscus group (n = 47) according to the degree of meniscal extrusion. Various parameters, including Kellgren/Lawrence classification, imaging findings, cartilage damage grading, physical function assessments, and correlation analyses, were used to evaluate the relationship between meniscal extrusion and disease progression.
