Roots of (Burm. f.) Bojer are used as aphrodisiac and spermatogenic in the treatment of male infertility. The present studies included assessment of alkaloidal fraction in male rats on testosterone synthesis in leydig cells. Studies included oral administration of doses of alkaloidal fraction (10, 25 and 50 mg/kg) to rats. Results showed 100% and 146.7% increment in serum testosterone and serum cholesterol at 50 mg/kg dose level, respectively. At the same dose, 135.29% increase in mounting frequency and 357.14% increase in intromission frequency were also observed. Moreover, mount latency and intromission latency were reduced by 32% and 15.88%. Also, there was significant increase in the weight of testes, prostate, seminal vesicle and epididymis. There was 30.26% rise in sperm concentration in treated animals. We conclude that the alkaloidal fraction up-regulated testosterone biosynthesis in leydig cells and it could be responsible for the aphrodisiac and spermatogenic effect.

In the search for novel natural products with hepatoprotective effects against acetaminophen-induced acute liver injury, the marine-derived fungus WHUF0198 was investigated. Seventeen undescribed pyranopyridone alkaloids, aculeapyridones A-Q (-), were isolated by bioactivity-guided fractionation of an extract obtained by coculture of the WHUF0198 with the mangrove-associated fungus sp. DM27.

Background: Amongst all neoplastic diseases, breast cancer represents a major cause of death among the female population in developed and developing countries. Since alkaloid drugs are commonly used in chemotherapy to manage this disease, this study investigated the anti-proliferative effectiveness of alkaloid-rich fractions of Senna didymobotrya leaves only and with laser irradiation against MCF-7 breast cancer cells.
Method And Materials: A powdered sample of the plant leaves was extracted with 50% ethanol, filtered and their pH was adjusted with acid and base solution followed by partitioning with chloroform and ethyl acetate solvents.

Background: Uric acid has been identified as an independent predictor of poor outcomes in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, the impact of gender differences on this association is not fully explored.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included hospitalized patients with HFpEF from June 2018 to October 2022.

Coffee pulp (CP) is the by-product of coffee processing that urgently needs to be revalorized using sustainable technologies. This work applied a design of experiment (DoE) for modeling the extraction of bioactive compounds from CP using supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-CO) with ethanol as a co-solvent under variable conditions (temperature, pressure, and ethanol percentage). Considering extraction efficiency (per unit of CP) and extraction selectivity (per unit of extract), results showed that ethanol percentage significantly enhanced the efficiency of total phenolic content, as well as the selectivity of chlorogenic acid and protocatechuic acid (p < 0.
