Small RNAs (sRNAs) play a crucial role in the regulation of bacterial gene expression by silencing the translation of target mRNAs. SgrS is an sRNA that relieves glucose-phosphate stress, or "sugar shock" in . The power of single cell measurements is their ability to obtain population level statistics that illustrate cell-to-cell variation. Here, we utilize single molecule super-resolution microscopy in single cells coupled with stochastic modeling to analyze glucose-phosphate stress regulation by SgrS. We present a kinetic model that captures the combined effects of transcriptional regulation, gene replication and chaperone mediated RNA silencing in the SgrS regulatory network. This more complete kinetic description, simulated stochastically, recapitulates experimentally observed cellular heterogeneity and characterizes the binding of SgrS to the chaperone protein Hfq as a slow process that not only stabilizes SgrS but also may be critical in restructuring the sRNA to facilitate association with its target mRNA.

Ferroptosis plays an important role in radiotherapy (RT), and the induction of ferroptosis can effectively sensitize radiotherapy. However, the therapeutic efficiency is always affected by ferroptosis resistance, especially SLC7A11 (Solute Carrier Family 7 Member 11)-cystine-cysteine-GSH (glutathione)-GPX4 (glutathione peroxidase 4) pathway-mediated resistance. In this study, tumor-microenvironment self-activated high-Z element-containing nanoferroptosis inducers, PEGylated Fe-Bi-SS metal-organic frameworks (FBSP MOFs), were developed to sensitize RT.

Aging is influenced by cellular senescence mechanisms that are associated with oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is the imbalance between antioxidants and free radicals. This imbalance affects enzyme activities and causes mitochondrial dysfunction.

2-O-α-Glucosylglycerol (GG) is a natural heteroside synthesized by many cyanobacteria and a few heterotrophic bacteria under salt stress conditions. Bacteria produce GG in response to stimuli and degrade it once the stimulus diminishes. Heterotrophic bacteria utilize GG phosphorylase (GGP), a member of the GH13_18 family, via a two-step process consisting of phosphorolysis and hydrolysis for GG catabolism.

Aim: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) are prone to develop vascular calcification. Fetuin-A protects against vascular calcification but it increases insulin resistance. T50 calciprotein crystallization (also called serum calcification propensity) is a novel marker of calcification stress.

The annotated and predicted genomes of five archaeal strains (AS1, AS2, AS8, AS11 and AS19), isolated from Sfax solar saltern sediments (Tunisia) and affiliated with , were performed by RAST webserver (Rapid Annotation using Subsystem Technology) and NCBI prokaryotic genome annotation pipeline (PGAP). The results showed the ability of strains to use a reduced semi-phosphorylative Entner-Doudoroff pathway for glucose degradation and an Embden-Meyerhof one for gluconeogenesis. They could use glucose, fructose, glycerol, and acetate as sole source of carbon and energy.
