Context: Medical students report high levels of perceived stress and burnout, especially during the preclinical years. The combination of physical stressors from poor posture, poor sleep quality, and mental stressors from the rigorous curriculum stimulates the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) to secrete cortisol. Previous studies have shown that persistent elevated cortisol levels are associated with negative health outcomes.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the short-term effects of a 1-hour floatation-resting environmental therapy (FLO) versus conventional napping (NAP) on heart rate variability (HRV) in highly trained individuals.
Methods: 20 non-fatigued participants underwent a prospective randomised interventional study comparing the impacts of FLO and NAP on both supine and standing HRV. Measurements were taken before and after each intervention under controlled conditions, and subjective experiences were assessed through questionnaires.

Background: Resting heart rate (HR) and HR variability (HRV) are widely used parameters to assess cardiac autonomic nervous system function noninvasively. While resting assessments can be performed during sleep or after awakening, it would be relevant to know how interchangeable the results of these measurements are. This study aimed at examining the alignment between nocturnal and morning assessments during regular endurance training and in response to intensive training.
