A porphyrinic metal-organic framework () known as PCN-222(Zn) was chemically doped with a molecular Re(I) catalyst-bearing carboxylate anchoring group to form a new type of metal-organic framework (MOF)-Re(I) hybrid photocatalyst. The porphyrinic MOF-sensitized hybrid () was prepared with an archetypical CO reduction catalyst, (L)Re(CO)Cl (Re(I); L = 4,4'-dicarboxylic-2,2'-bipyridine), in the presence of 3 vol % water produced CO with no leveling-off tendency for 59 h to give a turnover number of ≥1893 [1070 ± 80 μmol h (g MOF)]. The high catalytic activity arises mainly from efficient exciton migration and funneling from photoexcited porphyrin linkers to the peripheral Re(I) catalytic sites, which is in accordance with the observed fast exciton (energy) migration (≈1 ps) in highly ordered porphyrin photoreceptors and the effective funneling into Re(I) catalytic centers in the Re(I)-doped sample. Enhanced catalytic performance is convincingly supported by serial photophysical measurements including decisive Stern-Volmer interpretation.

Multimode luminescent materials exhibit tunable photon emissions under different excitation or stimuli channels, endowing them high encoding capacity and confidentiality for anti-counterfeiting and encryption. Achieving multimode luminescence into a stable single material presents a promising but remains a challenge. Here, the downshifting/upconversion emissions, color-tuning persistent luminescence (PersL), temperature-dependent multi-color emissions, and hydrochromism are integrated into Er ions doped CsNaYbCl nanocrystals (NCs) by leveraging shallow defect levels and directed energy migration.

The ability to convert light to higher energies through triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC) is attractive for a range of applications including solar energy harvesting, bioimaging and anti-counterfeiting. Practical applications require integration of the TTA-UC chromophores within a suitable host, which leads to a compromise between the high upconversion efficiencies achievable in liquids and the durability of solids. Herein, we present a series of methacrylate copolymers as TTA-UC hosts, in which the glass transition temperature ( ), and hence upconversion efficiency can be tuned by varying the co-monomer ratios (-hexyl methacrylate (HMA) and 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA)).

Boosting Hot Electron Generation in Energy Center Embedded Metal-Organic Frameworks for Photocatalysis.

The ligands in metal-organic framework (MOF) play as light absorption center and transfer photogenerated electrons to metal node through ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) during photocatalysis, and energy utilization efficiency is strongly restricted by the light inertness of ligands. Herein, a ligand updating strategy is proposed by inserting energy centers to MOFs to activate the inherent ligands, realizing boosting hot electron generation and photocatalytic activities via the cascaded proceeding of energy transfer and charge transfer. By taking PCN-777 (a zeotype mesoporous Zr-containing MOF) as an example, this study shows that the embedded energy center of 1-pyrenecarboxylic acid (PCA) can activate the inherent ligand of PCN-777 through triplet-triplet energy transfer, where triplet excitons would dissociate into photocarriers migrating to the Zr metal cluster via LMCT process.

Halide perovskites have emerged as promising materials for a wide variety of optoelectronic applications, including solar cells, light-emitting devices, photodetectors, and quantum information applications. In addition to their desirable optical and electronic properties, halide perovskites provide tremendous synthetic flexibility through variation of not only their chemical composition but also their structure and morphology. At the heart of their use in optoelectronic technologies is the interaction of light with electronic excitations in the form of excitons.

The development of durable and highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts is essential for the photocatalytic ozonation process towards degrading organic pollutants. This study presents CN-MA, a novel photocatalyst synthesized by grafting carbon nitride (CN) with single-atom Mn and 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (HDMP) via one-step thermal polymerization. Experimental characterization and theoretical calculation results reveal that incorporating single-atom Mn and HDMP into CN alters the charge density distribution on the heptazine rings.
