Background: A repair strategy for venous bleeding from the superior petrosal vein (SPV) is essential during endoscopic microvascular decompression.
Method: Sliced oxycellulose seats are rounded off, making balls around 10 mm in diameter. When venous bleeding arises from the SPV, the first oxycellulose ball is placed just behind the SPV in the surgical view. A second ball is then applied in front of the SPV. The SPV is thus immediately and entirely covered by oxycellulose, and hemostasis is safely achieved with the preservation of the SPV.
Conclusion: This oxycellulose ball technique offers simple, reliable control of venous bleeding from the SPV.

Background: Direct carotid-cavernous fistulas (CCFs) are relatively rare but dangerous complications of penetrating traumatic brain injury or maxillofacial trauma. A variety of clinical signs have been described, including ophthalmological and neurological ones. In some cases, severely altered cerebral blood flow can present as massive life-threatening bleeding through the nose, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and/or intraparenchymal hemorrhage.

In thrombosis and hemostasis, the formation of a platelet-fibrin thrombus or clot is a highly controlled process that varies, depending on the pathological context. Major signaling pathways in platelets are well established. However, studies with genetically modified mice have identified the contribution of hundreds of additional platelet-expressed proteins in arterial thrombus formation and bleeding.

This case report highlights a potential vaccine safety concern associated with the Pseudorabies virus (PRV) live vaccine, which warrants further investigation for comprehensive understanding. Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), a novel syndrome of adverse events following adenovirus vector COVID-19 vaccines, was observed after vaccination with Zoetis PR-VAC PLUS. This led to a 100% morbidity and high mortality among PRV-free Danish purebred pigs from Danish Genetics Co.

Importance: Essential thrombocythemia, a clonal myeloproliferative neoplasm with excessive platelet production, is associated with an increased risk of thrombosis and bleeding. The annual incidence rate of essential thrombocythemia in the US is 1.5/100 000 persons.

Purpose Of Review: The life expectancy of patients suffering from thrombosis associated with cancer has improved significantly, making them a chronic disease. Patients with thrombosis and cancer are fragile. Treated with anticoagulants, they remain at risk of complications.
