Objective: Some anatomical changes might trigger headaches in people who have migraine, and that surgical applications eliminating the structural problems in treatment-resistant migraine patients are effective in pain treatment.

Methods: A total of 36 patients, who did not respond to different treatment options without aura migraine and chronic migraine that were showing synonasal and anatomical changes in synonasal nasal endoscopy and/or paranasal sinus CT screening, responding insufficiently and/or approximately one year period also did not respond to different treatment options, were included in this study between June 2016 and September 2019.

Results: The relation between migraine episodes and synonasal symptoms was found to be statistically significant. A significant difference was detected between nasal congestion and obstruction, postnasal discharge, and runny nose in patients with attacks compared to patients without attacks. The difference between mean pain severity values was statistically significant when compared to preoperative values (3.0(3.0∼4.0)) and post-operative values (1.0(0∼1.0)). When the pain severity after the operation (1.0(1.0∼2.75)) was compared with the severity of pain before the operation (5.0 (3.0∼5.0)), it was determined that there was a significant decrease in pain severity in patients diagnosed with chronic migraine, the difference between the mean pain severity values was statistically significant, and the prevalence of pain decreased at a significant level after the operation.

Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that the elimination of synonasal structural changes, which were hypothesized to trigger pain in migraine patients, could have a pain-reducing effect on the frequency and severity of the pain.

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) was identified as an effective strategy in HIV prevention. Although circumcision reduces heterosexual acquisition of HIV by 60%, there is low uptake of VMMC services in Eswatini. This study applies the health belief model (HBM) in understanding perceptions of young men in Eswatini towards VMMC for HIV prevention to upscale its adoption.

Microtextured microneedles are tiny needle-like structures with micron-scale microtextures, and the drugs stored in the microtextures can be released after entering the skin to achieve the effect of precise drug delivery. In this study, the skin substitution model of Ogden's hyperelastic model and the microneedle array and microtexture models with different geometrical parameters were selected to simulate and analyse the flow of the microtexture microneedle arrays penetrating the skin by the finite-element method, and the length of the microneedles was determined to be 200 μm, the width 160 μm, and the value of the gaps was determined to be 420 μm. A four-pronged cone was chosen as the shape of microneedles, and a rectangle was chosen as the shape of the drug-carrying microneedle.

Decoding of pain during heel lancing in human neonates with EEG signal and machine learning approach.

Neuroscience & Neuroengineering Research Lab, Biomedical Engineering Department, School of Electrical Engineering, Iran University of Science & Technology (IUST), Narmak, Tehran, Iran.

Currently, pain assessment using electroencephalogram signals and machine learning methods in clinical studies is of great importance, especially for those who cannot express their pain. Since newborns are among the high-risk group and always experience pain at the beginning of birth, in this research, the severity of newborns has been investigated and evaluated. Other studies related to the annoyance of newborns have used the EEG signal of newborns alone; therefore, in this study, the intensity of newborn pain was measured using the electroencephalogram signal of 107 infants who were stimulated by the heel lance in three levels: no pain, low pain and moderate pain were recorded as a single trial and evaluated.

Endovascular therapy versus anticoagulation alone for subacute iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis.

December 2024

Department of Vascular Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China; Vascular Center of Shanghai JiaoTong University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: This study evaluated whether endovascular therapy (ET) improved early symptom relief and decreased the incidence of moderate-to-severe post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) compared to anticoagulation alone in patients with subacute (15-28 days) iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Materials And Methods: Consecutive patients with subacute iliofemoral DVT from January 2020 to June 2022 were identified. A total of 86 patients were categorized to treatment with ET alongside anticoagulation (endovascular group, n = 49) or anticoagulation alone (anticoagulation group, n = 37).

Backround: Manual therapy techniques are available for pain management in Multiple Sclerosis (MS); however, the results of neurodynamic mobilization (NM) are not known. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of NM exercises on pain, muscle strength and upper extremity functions in MS patients.

Methods: Patients aged between 18 and 65 years diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting (RR) MS (n = 31) according to McDonald 2010 diagnostic criteria were included in the study.
