Objectives: As a protective measure to slow down the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 in Korea, social distancing was implemented from February 29, 2020. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of domestic incidents and intentional injury during March 2020 when social distancing was in effect.
Methods: There were 12,638 patients who visited the Level 1 trauma center of Chungnam province with injuries from domestic incidents, familial discord, and intentional injury. The prevalence of injuries during March 2020 was compared with the average of the previous 5 years, and the average for every March between 2015 and 2019.
Results: The prevalence of domestic incidents in March 2020 was significantly higher than the 5-year average, and the average for every March from 2015 to 2019 ( < 0.001). Familial discord ( = 0.002) and intentional injury ( = 0.031) were more frequently observed in March 2020. Adolescents showed a markedly higher level of intentional injury in March 2020 than in both the 5-year average ( = 0.031), and average for every March over the previous 5 years ( = 0.037).
Conclusion: The prevalence of domestic incidents and intentional injury were significantly higher during the period of social distancing in Korea. There is a need for social consensus, better policies, and psychological support services, especially if faced with a second or third wave of coronavirus disease.

Introduction: Aluminum phosphide is a cheap and commonly used rodenticide that is also an effective solid fumigant and frequently used for grain preservation. The pill contains around 44% inert elements (ammonium carbonate) to avoid disintegration of the tablet, while the rest (about 56%) is aluminum phosphide. Because it is freely available on the market, it is one of the commonly used agents for self-poisoning in different parts of the developing world.

Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) carries a high economic cost and clinical morbidity in the United States. Beyond prolonged admissions and poor post-injury functional status, there is an additional cost of chronic shunt-dependent hydrocephalus for many aSAH patients. Adjuvant lumbar drain (LD) placement has been hypothesized to promote clearance of subarachnoid blood from the cisternal space, with an ultimate effect of decreasing shunt placement rates.

Background: We sought to define whether and how hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) as manifested by perioperative aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransaminase (ALT) levels impact long-term outcomes after curative-intent resection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Patients And Methods: Intrasplenic injection of HCC cells was used to establish a murine model of HCC recurrence with versus without I/R injury. Patients who underwent curative resection for HCC were identified from a multi-institutional derivative cohort (DC) and separate external validation (VC) cohort.

Background And Objective: Iliopsoas abscess (IPA) is a rare condition with varied symptomology and etiology. Less than one-third of patients with IPA present in the emergency department (ED) with the traditional triad of fever, back pain, and restricted hip motion (or limp), leading to delays in diagnosis and management. Acute liver failure is also a rare clinical presentation in the ED, being associated with high morbidity and mortality.

Background: Pediatric trauma is a major global health concern, accounting for a substantial proportion of deaths and disease burden from age 5 onwards. Effective triage and management are essential in pediatric trauma care, and prediction models such as the Trauma Injury Severity Score (TRISS) play a crucial role in estimating survival probability and guiding quality improvement. However, TRISS does not account for age-specific factors in pediatric populations, limiting its applicability to younger patients.
