A complete sternal cleft is a very rare congenital anomaly causing severe respiratory compromise. Surgical reconstruction options are limited, particularly in low birth weight newborns. Herein, we report a case of low birth weight premature newborn with a complete sternal cleft and its surgical treatment.

Objective: Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a rare but devastating complication that is estimated to occur in 1-2% of patients after median sternotomy. Current standard of care (SoC) comprises antibiotics, debridement and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) appears to be an effective adjuvant therapy for osteomyelitis.

Thymic carcinoma, a rare aggressive tumor, necessitates multidisciplinary approaches for optimal prognosis. The role of surgical interventions in stage IVb thymic carcinoma, as classified by the TNM and Masaoka-Koga staging systems, remains controversial; although some patients present with resectable disease, others do not. We report a case with supraclavicular metastasis and sternal invasion.

A case-control study was conducted to examine the influence of perioperative risk factors on the development of sternal infection.
