We read with great interest the article of Luis Alcalá-González et al. This study reinforces the scientific evidence regarding safety and effectiveness of self-expandable metal stent placement for the palliation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO). Our special interest in this topic makes us want to share the experience of our center and to strengthen some of the key points.

Imaging and Nonsurgical Management of Renal Masses.

Radiographics

January 2025

From the Departments of Radiology (L.C.J., P.J.N., D.A., S.M.T., E.T., G.S., T.P., S.K.V., T.D.A.), Urology (A.M.P.), and Radiation Oncology (B.S.), Mayo Clinic, 200 First St SW, Rochester, MN 55905.

In patients with renal masses, when intervention is warranted, partial nephrectomy is preferred when feasible, especially for T1 renal masses. Thermal ablation, however, has become an accepted alternative treatment of small renal neoplasms with excellent oncologic outcomes. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines include thermal ablation as a treatment strategy for managing T1a and select T1b masses.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell receptor therapy has transformed outcomes for patients with relapsed and refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (R/R DLBCL). It is currently approved in the third line for all patients and in the second line for early relapsed or primary refractory disease. Although CAR T cell therapy offers the potential for improved outcomes, its use may also include logistical delays related to referral, medical, social, and financial clearance as well as manufacturing time; more than half of patients experience disease recurrence or progression while awaiting CAR T infusion.

The Role of Radiation Therapy for Palliation of Hematologic Malignancies.

Semin Radiat Oncol

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.. Electronic address:

Palliative RT is an effective tool in management and treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. Even relatively low doses of palliative RT can quickly and effectively relieve pain and other symptoms impairing quality of life and function. As so many diseases are represented by the umbrella term, "hematologic malignancies," and each disease has its own natural history and prognosis, the indications for palliative RT are heterogeneous.

Background And Aims: Self-expanding metal stents (SEMSs) are effective for symptom palliation in patients with esophageal obstruction. However, their placement can lead to adverse events such as stent migration and restenosis. A novel fully covered SEMS (FCSEMS) with antimigration properties has been developed to address these issues.
