Article Synopsis
  • - The Italian Lung Cancer Observational Study (LUCENT) focuses on improving understanding and treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by analyzing patient outcomes in Italy, particularly for those with early and locally advanced cases.
  • - The study will use a web-based registry to collect real-world data on surgical, oncological, and socioeconomic factors, aiming to inform healthcare decisions and establish national benchmarks for NSCLC treatments.
  • - By evaluating both clinical and psychosocial impacts, LUCENT addresses gaps in current knowledge and aims to enhance understanding of patient experiences, with recruitment planned from January 2024 to December 2026.

Background: We have previously shown that SHP2 downregulation may predispose fibroblasts to differentiate into myofibroblasts and proposed a role for SHP2 downregulation in the pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Recent data have shown that SHP2 localizes to the mitochondrial intercristae, and its overexpression enhances mitochondrial metabolism leading to oxidative stress and senescence.

Objective: To determine the effect of SHP2 on fibrotic responses.

Department of Radiology, Children's National Hospital, Washington, DC (D.B.); Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences (E.A.B.) and Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (S.V.), Emory University, Atlanta, Ga; Department of Radiology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Mass (A.S., J.B.A., B.P.L.); and Department of Diagnostic, Molecular and Interventional Radiology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY (A.B., M.C.).

Purpose: To assess CT features of pulmonary fibrosis in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to assess the presence of several distinctive patterns of fibrosis associated with connective tissue disease.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective analysis was performed. An institutional clinical database was queried for the years of 2005-2015 to identify CT examination reports of patients with SLE and fibrotic lung disease, which yielded 50 patients (median age, 49 years; age range, 22-71 years; 46 women).

A 21-year-old man who had a history of pneumonia twice presented with chest discomfort. Computed tomography( CT) revealed dilatation of the atretic bronchus that was not continuous with the proximal one, and surrounding hyper-lucent lung fields in the outer and mediastinal sides of the right basal segment, and the absence of B10b+c. CT also demonstrated the presence of A10b+c in the former field and the aberrant artery from the inferior phrenic artery in the latter.
