Article Abstract
Avibactam is a potent diazobicyclooctane inhibitor of class A and C β-lactamases. The inhibitor also exhibits variable activity against some class D enzymes from Gram-negative bacteria; however, its interaction with recently discovered class D β-lactamases from Gram-positive bacteria has not been studied. Here, we describe microbiological, kinetic, and mass spectrometry studies of the interaction of avibactam with CDD-1, a class D β-lactamase from the clinically important pathogen , and show that avibactam is a potent irreversible mechanism-based inhibitor of the enzyme. X-ray crystallographic studies at three time-points demonstrate the rapid formation of a stable CDD-1-avibactam acyl-enzyme complex and highlight differences in the anchoring of the inhibitor by class D enzymes from Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

As demanding as dancing en pointe is, no universal standard exists to determine when a ballet dancer is ready to advance to this next level. The goal of this study was to provide preliminarily tested and reliable guidelines for a screening tool that can be used to determine (1) if a dancer is ready for pointe, (2) reasons why a dancer may not be ready, and (3) areas for improvement to guide training and preparation. Seventeen dancers aged 9 to 17 years with a minimum 4 years of ballet and who were either possibly ready for pointe or had been in pointe class less than 3 months participated in this study.

Objective: To investigate the long-term impact of cardiac surgery on the quality of life in adults with congenital heart disease (ACHDs).
Methods: Patients who had undergone cardiac surgery for congenital heart disease (CHD) at the age of 18 years or more were recruited in a single-center, cross-sectional study. The enrolled subjects completed online questionnaires to assess patient-reported outcomes: perceived health status and life satisfaction, psychological functioning, health behaviors, and illness perception.
