Objectives: Acebutolol HCl (ABL) is a selective β-adrenergic receptor blocking agent that is preferably administered by the oral route despite its low bioavailability (30-50%). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of verapamil HCl (VER) [as P-glycoprotein inhibitor (P-gp)] on the intestinal absorption of ABL by comparing the changes in the absorption rate constant (k) of ABL.
Materials And Methods: intestinal perfusion was conducted in healthy male Wistar albino rats to study the absorption phase of ABL. Eighteen rats were divided into three groups. The first group (the control group) was perfused with ABL alone (260 μg/mL). The second and third groups were perfused with ABL (260 μg/mL) in combination with VER at different concentrations (200 and 400 μg/mL, respectively). The analysis was performed using a simple, rapid, and validated spectroscopic method.
Results: The absorption study showed that k of ABL in the first group was 0.47±0.045 h-. In the third group k increased 3-fold (1.37±0.031 h-); however, the second group showed a statistically insignificant change in k (0.39±0.076 h-).
Conclusion: The results revealed that VER at a concentration of 400 μg/mL has a pronounced effect on the absorption kinetics of ABL (increased k). This could be linked to the inhibition of P-gp, which is considered a contributing factor in low bioavailability of ABL.

Background: Water retention, ultrafiltration insufficiency, and metabolic complications due to abnormally high glucose concentrations are still common problems in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis. Phloretin, a nonselective inhibitor of facilitative glucose transporter channels (GLUT), has shown to improve water transport and lower glucose absorption in experimental peritoneal dialysis. However, the dose-response relationship remains unknown, and we therefore performed a dose-response study to elucidate the pharmacodynamic properties of intra-peritoneal phloretin therapy.

This brief report aimed to investigate the optical absorbance spectra of normal, dysplastic, and malignant epithelial cell lines under normal and nutritional stress conditions. HaCAT (keratinocyte), DOK (oral dysplastic), and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell lines (CA1, Luc4, SCC9) were evaluated regarding their optical absorbance after culture with 0-10% fetal bovine serum. Absorbance measurements indicated that HaCAT under serum starvation exhibited higher absorbance at blue (430 nm) and near-infrared (906 nm) wavelengths.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fabrics often possess good mechanical, waterproofing, and breathability properties. However, the resistance of TPU to excessive ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is poor and often does not meet the UV resistance requirements of fabrics. Electrospun nanofibers with a side-by-side structure can combine the advantages of different materials.

Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography has enabled significant reductions in device dimensions but is often limited by capillary force-driven pattern collapse in conventional wet processes. Recent dry-development approaches, while promising, frequently require toxic etchants or specialized equipment, limiting their broader applicability and highlighting the need for more sustainable, cost-effective alternatives. In this study, highly reactive, etchant-free dry-developable EUV photoresists using N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-based metal-ligand complexes, achieving half-saturation at EUV doses of 8.

Constructing heterojunctions between phase interfaces represents a crucial strategy for achieving excellent photocatalytic performance, but the absence of sufficient interface driving force and limited charge transfer pathway leads to unsatisfactory charge separation processes. Herein, a doping-engineering strategy is introduced to construct a In─N bond-bridged InS nanocluster modified S doped carbon nitride (CN) nanosheets Z-Scheme van der Waals (VDW) heterojunctions (InS/CNS) photocatalyst, and the preparation process just by one-step pyrolysis using the pre-coordination confinement method. Specifically, S atoms doping enhances the bond strength of In─N and forms high-quality interfacial In─N linkage which serves as the atomic-level interfacial "highway" for improving the interfacial electrons migration, decreasing the charge recombination probability.
