The anion transport system of the human erythrocyte membrane was reconstituted in unilamellar phosphatidylcholine vesicles, and a vesicle subpopulation of a narrow size distribution was isolated from the sample by gel filtration. In this subpopulation, the turnover number of the transport protein (the band 3 protein) for sulfate transport was determined. It was found that, in the reconstituted system, the protein transports sulfate 5-10 times faster than in the human erythrocyte membrane.

Background: Zoledronate prevents fractures in older women when administered every 12 to 18 months, but its effects on bone density and bone turnover persist beyond 5 years. Whether infrequent zoledronate administration would prevent vertebral fractures in early postmenopausal women is unknown.
Methods: We conducted a 10-year, prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving early postmenopausal women (50 to 60 years of age) with bone mineral density T scores lower than 0 and higher than -2.

Atomically precise nanoclusters (NCs) can serve as an excellent platform for a comprehensive understanding of structure-property relationships. Herein, three structurally similar Cu NCs (Cu-1, Cu-2 and Cu-3) have been prepared for the photocatalytic phenylacetylene self-coupling reaction. It was found that Cu-1 NC achieved the highest turnover number (TON) of 524.

Background: With increasing demand for total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA), maximizing operating room (OR) efficiency is critical. This paper sought to examine the implementation of time benchmarks when performing primary TKA and THA. We hypothesized that implementing benchmarks would improve efficiency and the number of joints performed per day.

Background: Thyroid hormone plays an important role in accumulating bone development and regulating bone metabolism. It is established that hypothyroidism is linked to increased risk of osteoporosis and fracture. However, the effects of levothyroxine (LT4) treatment on bone for hypothyroid patients remain controversial.

The development of a metallic copper-based catalyst system remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of highly stable, active, and reusable Cu0 catalyst for the carboboration of alkynes using carbon electrophiles and bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2) as chemical feedstocks to afford di- and trisubstituted vinylboronate esters in a regio- and stereoselective manner with appreciable turnover number (TON) of up to 2535 under mild reaction conditions. This three-component coupling reaction works well with a variety of substituted electrophiles and alkynes with broad functional group tolerance.
