Electrical impedance spectroscopy was performed on suspensions of plant cells in aqueous buffer media over a wide frequency range of 4 Hz to 20 GHz. Custom probes were designed, manufactured, and used for these investigations. Experiments were performed with a custom-made parallel plate probe and impedance analysers in the low-frequency range (4 Hz to 5 MHz), with a custom-made coaxial airline probe and a vector network analyser in the mid-frequency range (100 kHz to 3 GHz), and with a commercial open-ended probe and a vector network analyser in the high-frequency range (200 MHz to 20 GHz). The impedance data acquired were processed in order to eliminate the effects of parasitics and compensate for geometrical differences between the three probes. Following this, the data were fitted to a unified model consisting of the Randles and Debye models. The data were also normalized to a reference measurement, in order to accentuate the effects of cell concentration on the impedance of the suspensions.•The methodology allows for impedance spectroscopy of cell suspensions over a wide frequency range spanning 10 orders of magnitude.•It allows for compensation of parasitics and of geometrical variations between probes, using mathematical techniques.

Herein, we present an efficient approach for developing electrochemical aptasensing interfaces, by "click" postfunctionalization of phenylethynyl-grafted glassy carbon substrates with mixed monolayers containing biorecognition elements and phosphorylcholine zwitterionic groups. Typically, controlling the composition of multicomponent surface layers by grafting from a mixture of aryldiazonium salts is challenging due to differences in their chemical reactivity. Our approach circumvents this issue by employing the electrochemical reduction of a single aryldiazonium salt containing a silyl-protected alkyne group followed by deprotection, to create phenylethynyl monolayers which can subsequently accommodate the concurrent immobilization of bioreceptors and zwitterionic groups through "click" postfunctionalization.

We study the influence of electrical biasing on the modification of the chemical composition and electrical performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by coupling electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) techniques. EIS reveals the formation of charge accumulation at the interfaces and changes in the resistive and capacitive properties. STXM study on PSCs after applying a strong electric field for a long biasing time indicates the breakdown of methylammonium (MA) cation, promoting iodide ions to migrate and create defects at the interface.

Constructing a built-in electric field (BIEF) within heterostructures has emerged as a compelling strategy for advancing electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. Herein, the p-n type nanosheet array heterojunction NiP-NCDs-Co(OH)-NF are successfully prepared. The variation in interaction affinity between nitrogen within N-doped carbon dots (NCDs) and Ni/Co induces charge redistribution between Co and Ni in the NiP-NCDs-Co(OH)-NF-3 heterostructure, thereby enhancing the intensity of the BIEF, facilitating electron transfer, and markedly improving OER activity.

In the realm of materials science and engineering, the pursuit of advanced materials with tailored properties has been a driving goal behind technological progress. Scientific interest in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) fabricated NiTi alloy has in recent times seen an upsurge of activity. In this study, we investigate the impact of varying volume energy density (VED) during L-PBF on the microstructure and corrosion behaviour of NiTi alloys in both scan (XY) and built (XZ) planes.
