: Hyperkalemia is a common electrolyte disorder in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASi) have been shown to improve survival and decrease hospitalization rates, although they may increase the serum potassium levels. Hyperkalemia has significant clinical and economic implications, and is associated with increased healthcare resource utilization.

Kidney stones typically present as renal colic in emergency departments (EDs), where patients experience severe pain and often require parenteral therapy for symptom management. The economic burden associated with managing kidney stones exceeds USD 5 billion annually in the US and accounts for more than a million visits to EDs each year. There is clear evidence emphasizing the need for innovative and alternative pain control options for patients with renal colic.

Background: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) are the most common cause of drug-induced angioedema in the United States. Our primary objective was to provide descriptive evidence regarding emergency department (ED) disposition of ACEI-induced angioedema patients. Our secondary objective was to evaluate unique patterns in those with ACEI-induced angioedema at a tertiary referral center, including demographics, details of those requiring intubation, length of inpatient stay, and allergy documentation.
